It's OK as a Pontiac with me, and in truly GM style, it's a slightly modified Chevy

I mean - I like this van a lot, but have seen 90% of it already

EDIT: The more I look at it, the more I think of Mitsubishi Grandis - this could be GM's answer to Grandis' and similar minivans (Mazda MPV, Ford S-Max)

Very Nice indeed! Great lines... I like the way the rear beltline is wider than the greenhouse. Very Volvoesque!:p

Re: >>>>> Pontiac! <<<<< None Entry But Check It Out---NEW**2nd version

It's really hard to decide now... They are both great, but if I were GM, I'd only make one of them. And it's Chevrolet that should get a van first and foremost...

I think I should add I consider them in all possible sizes. I believe that the Chevrolet could be a replacement for the Astro OR the next "regular" minivan, or even a compact minivan, but Chevy's already got a pretty good entry in the latter class. The Pontiac could perhaps be the next Vibe or a slightly bigger Grandis/MPV-sized minivan (bigger than compacts but smaller than regular minivans), I don't think Pontiac should have a regular-size minivan or a full-size van at all. I am actually pretty hesitant about Pontiac minivans at all, but your proposition is tempting...

You saw the updated version right?
I agree Pontiac should not have minvans at all, but if they can produce a nice looking *performance* van then maybe they could get away with it.
I just noticed you live in Poland, is that correct?
do you guys have many american cars over there?
if not how come you know so much about them?
we have lots but mostly classics.
do you also like classic american cars?

We have quite many American cars, there are quite many Polish people in America and there is emigration back and forth, so people bring their cars along. Besides, "American" was viewed very favorably just in the 80s and 90s, maybe not that much today, but there is stillbig sentiment towards American makes.

The typical American cars you can see here are the minivans - Chrysler's (obvious, they are popular in Europe in general and cheaper in America), Windstars (the Freestar came after the import regulations became tougher and didn't catch on, even after they were relaxed), even Siennas. Many people brought back their Tauruses, Camrys, Accords, VWs and even American-spec Corollas. People choose vehicles that are also sold in Europe (they all are of course, except of the Taurus) due to easy servicing and thus higher possible resale.

Recent imports mostly include "bling" SUVs and crossovers (Escalades, Navigators, Infinities) and "specialty cars" like Mustangs. But still there are enthusiasts who drive around in late B-bodies or early Auroras. In the early 90s you could actually buy vehicles such as Caprice through GM dealer network in Poland (and in other European countries too, for that matter), later the EU became tougher on American imports and they were pulled.

My personal interest in cars began long before anyone could dream of American cars in Poland, my grandma gave me my very first "Auto Katalog" (German MPS's catalogue of supposedly all mass-manufactured cars in the world for a given model year), so I memorized most brands and models before I could ever see them. I still buy Auto Katalogs every year, even though there are much better online sources

As concerns American cars, I just love big, stately, elegant and, well, kitschy. And that's what American cars were to me. They aren't too much that way nowadays, so I am a fan of "GM NA from the past", mostly Buick and Cadillac. I also have a pretty good memory for all kinds of info that I absolutely don't need, so that's how I know all that.

Did I mention I like to write lenghty posts nobody's interested in reading?

Speaking of this, know any good online sources that go really comprehensive even for things older than 2000? I find the only ones that go old are marque specific, so don't fuel my pure geekyness.

Re: >>>>> Pontiac! <<<<< None Entry But Check It Out---NEW**2nd version

Not at all. Sometimes Global Autoindex can help (www.autoindex.org), but that's for the 90s mostly, the Wikipedia is also more often hit than miss, so you just have to Google and rely on brand-specific or even model-specific sources (like Allpar is good for Mopars, but it's all patchy too).

The Name That Car contest is a great encouragement to do your own research and broaden your own knowledge (don't want to sound immodest, but my own brain is the best online source I can think of). And this all points towards the need of greater involvement of GMI folk into the Wiki community

BTW, there was a GREAT, very comprehensive and professional site on Italian cars under www.carsfromitaly.com., but sadly it went down.
