    Lincoln Continental - 2 Stages

    Continental.jpg

I have been interested by Lincoln's attempt to reinvent itself. However, like Cadillac, Lincoln is still lacking a large, range-topping car to give the brand true luxury credibility. Here is a little design experiment I did today. I started with the iconic 1961 Lincoln Continental for inspiration. Then I converted the '61 into more modern proportions with a different roofline and overhangs. The final picture is the modern day interpretation of some of the same design cues shown in the '61. I chose to reference the roofline, beltline jog, and non-circular front wheel opening from the '61 in my modern version. Please let me know what you think. I would enjoy hearing all comments and suggestions!

    *LOVE* your experiment, TH16MN

one of my favorite design elements of the 60's Continentals is the way the chrome bumpers integrate into the fender design - think that could possibly work on in a modern interpretation with 'non-metallic' chrome
    &
esp '64 & following iirc, is the matching front & rear fender-edge tail light/front turnsignal treatments
(if I find my primitive .gif drawing from a lifetime ago, I'll add it,
tho a bit looser adaptation would definitely be better)

I like the look, however I disagree that retro is what Lincoln needs to revive themselves. Maybe a couple of minor touches, or looking back to then and understanding why a car sold well - but not a retro car.

I guess I should have explained myself better. The bottom picture is my proposed design for the new Continental. The middle picture is merely a halfway point between the '61 and my modern design, not a proposed design for a production model.

I like it, and I like that you kept the sloping roof to accommodate the glass roof

Thanks for the positive feedback! Here is a quick update with headlights and adjusted taillights.
