Hummer Sport "Half Track" or "6X6"

    .

    O.K.

So I loved those Half Track's the German Generals used to ride around in on Hogan's Hero's.

    Here's a 2008 Hummer Sport Half Track. Powered by an 830 ci 1,000 bhp 1,000 lb-ft Caddilac Sixteen V16.

Just the thing to get to that extra special fishing spot.

And it has a high-lift front hydraulic suspension to help climb that ridge.

During the warmer months the large front snow/mud wheels & tires and the rear half track system is replaced by conventional wheels in a 6x6 configuration.

    Hi Rex,

Some people may not think it's pretty, but half-tracks are like 10 times more capable off road than an equivalent 4x4. I've just been reading about the half-tracks in WWII and they can go through sand and snow and swamp that would bog even the best set up 4x4. Their beauty lies in their power as a go anywhere machine.

Not only does the 'track' have three times the contact patch of a tire, but the constant shallow ramp angle as it sinks into the terrain allows it to drive out of the bog. A circular tire as it sinks into loose terrain is confronted by an ever increasing ramp angle which when bogged to the axles is a 90-degree wall that is almost impossible to drive out of.

Not all good design means good looks. Being able to do WHAT it is designed to do is also good design. Hummer’s are more than the Bling Mobiles that they have been turned into by marketing departments. And not all vehicles should be judged superficially. Hummers once, and still should, hold off road performance as a very high design criterion.

At least that’s what I think.

I like it fine. Good job!
I was saying to myself(yes, talking to myself, :P ) that this would be good for the skiing lodges here in Michigan & else where, like Colorado for instance.
IF It's A Chevrolet & RWD, Don't ride in it!!!

ALL Chevy's NEED to be FWD/F-AWD!!!

    If it's a Toyota/Lexus/Scion, Don't ride in/drive it!!

It looks kind of ugly, but very neat idea. It would be great for skiing lodges like LeSabre was saying. Good Job.

I've been looking into that and apparently in the US they are street legal if they have rubber track pads, not plain metal tracks.

Another interesting point is that the American WWII halftracks used a system where the halftracks swapped in where normal truck wheels were. So you could chose to have the vehicle as a wheeled or halftrack, depending upon seasonal conditions.

I might have to photoshop a wheeled version of this Hummer for summer months.

    Edit as promised:

I never intended it to be pretty, but I bet if one of these pulled up in a Shopping Mall car park it would draw crowds like crazy.

I don't know if you've seen those drag racing snowmobiles, but there is no reason why these track vehicles can't go as fast and as hard as any wheeled vehicle. In fact the drag racing snowmobiles are some of the fastest accelerating vehicles in the world.

There is already a 6x6 H2. They are called H6's and made by an aftermarket company.

here ya go heres one for ya!

ok so maybe its not a hummer but the idea is pretty sweet. You dont have to even modify the driveline or stretch it out. They make bolt on setups for tracked systems.
