Hummer Rockbox Minivan (V 2.0) new picture

I am making the effort to find a solution to the quality of these posts. This is the orginal picture I worked from of a Chevy Uplander ( THX, Tuxmelvin)...

    This is my picture of The Hummer Rockbox;

This is the exact same design concept as the previous one posted here, the door thing has been addressed...if they both look like s**t to you, then DO NOT blame me.

IF, however only mine looks like crap, (aside from the design quallities) ...then I have a much more serious problem with my computer than I thought. BUT, it does not look that way to me. The Rockbox is not finished at all, I have yet to complete the headlight & grille assembly. PLEASE, talk to me on this.

I don't know what you guys see, but it looks like one wicked a$$ "rock'in" minivan to me. I need to know what you see, as opposed to what I see here. Thank You.

    Again, it's a blurry mess.
Stop using the smudge tool! It doesn't help you.
How big was the original picture? It looks sharp. But if that was the original size, then you are using stuff that is way too small.
You need to start with a picture AT LEAST 800x600, but perferable 1024x768.

The problem is not with your hardware. It is with your eyes, or your skill.
You really shouldn't post pictures of "in progress" stuff, unless you are prepared for the feedback. The grille is the only thing even slightly Hummeresque about your picture, and even then, it's only that way because you called it a Hummer. Otherwise I wouldn't have made the connection.

If it is to be a hummer, make it a hummer the whole way. Your smudgy swooshes on the side are NOT a Hummer styling feature.

Would you buy a car that looked the way you styled it?

So here's the thing you CAN NOT take an image and ENLARGE it!!! Period you will blow away the quality...rule of thumb, you can reduce the size and retain quality....YOU CAN NOT ENLARGE IT!!!

If you really want a Hummer version of the current CSV minivans, it would look something like this:

S**T...I have no idea what is happening then ?...I did NOT use the smudge tool hardly at all. YES, I like the side designs, you may not...THAT at least is an esthetic thing. As far as enlarging it, I did not, I just trimmed the total picture ?????...could that effect the size display ? I DUNNO ?? !!!!

it looks like you used the smudge tool on everything behind the A-pillar. The rear glass and wheelwells as well as the headlights are the main problem areas.

as for the design, i kinda like it, but get rid of the "hummer" grill and name. Make it a refresh of the current CSVs.

I think it gets blurry when you change a part of the car or chop another car and fuse it together...the only way I would be able to help you is to see the way you use photoshop.
I'll make a new sig. Later.

The hood, headlights, roof, doors, length, etc... is exactly the same as a regular Uplander or SV6, therefore it really is a minivan, despite it's rugged looks.
This is not an entry for this contest. It was done just for fun a long time ago.

Asim,...I appreciate your attitude, man...OK, the only things I used the smudge tool on were the sides below the doorhandles, and the front lower bumper. The head lights are "floating" not pinned down yet, on another level. ????? ...also, I trimmed the total picture to frame the car. I can do it again without trimming it if that will help. Mr. Burns....you may be right. Perhaps I should just keep the Chevy front end and call it that ?

The original picture couldn't have been that size... there's too much detail for it to have been enlarged THAT much. I think the problem here (and elsewhere) is not the resolution... it's the compression. Here's Rex's very cool H3V using some horrible compression.

Given that the file size for MR D's images are huge, the compression must have taken place sometime before the final image.

Is it possible that you are saving these images as lossy JPEGs while you are working on them? Each time you save it the image will degrade, so if you are working on it and then coming back later it will look pretty crummy overtime. I save everything as PSDs and then output to JPEG later... even if it's not a big project or anything.

OH, F me...THAT is exacty what I have been doing !....da*m. Yes, as I went along I saved it to JPEG. Step by step. AWWW, F**k !..I had no idea that this would degrade the image at all. OK, luckily I did not do that with this picture, mainly because I was so dizzy from fixing all the "blurry" stuff in it, I did not have the presense of mind to save it to JEPEG, thank god.

Rex, if you ever complain to me again about the smudgy, blurry nature of my pictures....I will track your a$$ down, and buy you a beer, OK? That pix is worse than most of mine,...I will say no more, except that you got nothing on me buddy. We cool on that...?, because if you posted that pix, well, you know exactly what I mean.

So, after making myself dizzy to post SOMETHING here you dude's will not bitch about...I used Rex's picture, after all he said "If I want a Hummer"...

    SO, ...uh,....here it is...The Rockbox...courtesy of Rex....

I like it enough to use it as my entry, ....of course only with Rex's permission ...No, after looking at it some more...I don't either?...well maybe.
I think I like the previous one better, maybe with a few of the elements from this one ????????????? ...I am to dizzy from that pix to think right now !

I mean this...granted that I did this a bit on the quick side, ...but I do not see a great bit of difference in the "quality" of both posts here at all, as a matter of fact, the tire thing is still a bit of a problem to fix and the sidesteps too are fuzzy and the grille is a bit bent right now, ....but SO AM I.

Hey...c'mon...gimme a break !...for real,... I think the quality on the other pic may be even better than this one with some work ????

It is a bit "jeep" looking, ...& it ain't perfect yet either, but hey, this is what REX WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT ON THE PREVIOUS ONE ....it was to sedate. AND, if you all tell me this is another blurry mess, I will know you are FOS, and you need to go talk to REX, NOT ME...LOL...you can make some of the people happy some of the time, but........THX, AGAIN TUXMELVIN...you are the BEST, pal.

Re: Hummer Rockbox Minivan (V 2.0) new picture

Okay, wait, I think I've figured this out. Because that's full of JPEG compression too, but it's different than the artifacts that I intentionally introduced. Furthermore, the line on the hood has no artifacts, and the file is relatively large still. I don't know if you're saving these properly, but you'd have to make these files awfully small to introduce that much compression. They're not small enough for that.

So that was driving the amateur detective in me nuts. Then I figured it out. If I had to guess, I'd say you're on a dialup connection with AOL. Well, I know you use AOL... it's in your e-mail address. AOL connections... especially older ones, but possibly newer ones too (I just don't know)... they compress incoming files as well. All the images you see are blurry and full of artifacts.

That's just my guess... it explains why the images are full of compression artifacts yet still relatively large. Even saving as a JPEG over and over shouldn't introduce THAT many problems... I've done it in the past out of laziness and it wasn't noticeable.
