GTO Make-Over *plus all new GTO and ragtop version

Did you ever see a fat chick and think, "She's got a pretty face, and a great personality...if she'd just lose a few pounds, maybe get her hair done, she'd be a hottie!"

That's how I first reacted when I saw Lutz's GTO for the first time. It's like, inside that bulbous, homely jelly bean exterior there's a hottie dying to get out. So I did this chop just for the hell of it.

Stretched the nose and flattened the hood a bit, chopped the greenhouse a little, moved it rearward slightly, lowered the beltline a tiny bit...(oh, and got ride of that nasty spoiler); voila! A beautiful all American (looking) muscle car.

The thing is, all of these changes were small, but add up to a much cleaner, meaner looking design. Why can't these guys who do this for a living get it right the first time? After all, it's a hell of a lot easier to do this in PaintShop than to do it in sheet metal.

    Hope you like.

its not much differant. all i can tell is the the hood scoops look longer and the spoiler is gone. its cleanly done, but it needs more i think

I can see what you did. It is hard to tell in a pic like that but it would probobly make a huge difference in real life.

I know what you did, but I really had to look hard to tell the difference. At first glance I just saw the missing tail spoiler.

Overall it does look better, since it is lower and wider.

    Re: GTO Make-Over

It's interesting that it does look wider, since I've done nothing to widen the stance. It's just not as tall and bulbous looking.

In this last chop, I've massaged the hood and roofline a little.
Oh, and I'm kind of tired of the split grill, so it's gone...and the lower facia opening is smaller (less tall, same width), which emphasizes the hood scoops more and contributes to the wider appearance overall.

I think it looks awesome now!

The one on the right looks way better. I never liked the split grill opening.

    Re: GTO Make-Over

oh yeah, why would anyone like the split-grill opening? I mean its only a Pontiac trademark and the only way to tell the difference between the GTO and the Monaro. I am not a big fan of ditching the grill (if you couldnt already tell). I think if you were to transplant the headlights with those from the redesigned Monaro and sharpened the fenders, you might have a winner

a split grill with different ovaled shapes would look better

Now it's done..new headlights, new grill, new rocker fairing, revamped C-pillar; this is what the GTO should have looked like in the first place.

    Re: GTO Make-Over

Well, you can only do so much with the rest of that nasty body, so here's a rebodied GTO with the new front clip, plus a convertible version.

Yeah, I didn't spend enough time on those last two rebodied versions, they look pretty funky. I corrected the out of perspective body on the convertible, but it's rough...here's the new pic, (needs to go to the paint shop!) showing a nice shape for the convertible.

Well i just have to say this, you may think the gto looks nasty, but I wouldnt go near your redesign with a ten foot bargepole. Not bagging you , just don't like what you've done to it at all.

    my 02 cents
