    That front-end/grill looks almost Bugatti-ish.

My parents had two 1959 Edsels for awhile: a Villager S/W and a 4-dr Ranger.

Interesting look, but the thought occurs to me that a car division as monumentally unsuccessful as Edsel was may not be the ideal candidate for reinvention. (and yes, Edsel was to be a new division, slotting between the perceived gap existing between Ford and Mercury.)

Maybe call it something else and let buyers make their own connections?

Nice rendering of a reborn Edsel! Not any uglier than the production Pontiac Aztek (the concept was way better).

Ya, the Edsel failed, but for many reasons. Among them are the following:

    • STYLING: Many have said that it's styling was really bad (eg: Oldsmobile sucking a lemon, etc). I don't think the Edsel was THAT bad looking when compared to the rest of the 1958's when it debuted. The Oldsmobiles, for example, had what appeared to be chromed music bars on the rear quarters of it's models. IMO, the Edsel was just different from what everybody else was doing.
    • PLACEMENT IN THE MEDIUM PRICED MARKET: As far as whether it was a true step up in the Ford hierarchy, that's another matter entirely. Pricing was indeed more expensive than Ford, but less than Mercury. Was the content/materials better than a Ford but less than a Mercury?
    • RECESSION OF '58/MOVE TOWARDS COMPACTS: The US economy was in a downturn in 1958 and American consumers were buying more economy-minded vehicles than medium-priced gas guzzlers. AMC's Rambler was only one of two marques to sell more in 1958 than in '57. Trying to establish a vehicle with no brand equity (because the Edsel brand was new) was very hard in a down economy.

    Opinions?
