    Chevy Backpack econocar/pickup

well, this is my concept sketch the chevy backpack - a hybrid econocar that converts into a hybrid pickup truck.

i've not really worked any of the actual styling yet, but this is the basic idea:

Yeah, great idea. I kinda like the look of the little econocar by itself. It's got an "Aveo meets SSR" look to it. It'd also cool that you already thought about how to make the bed on such a small vehicle more useful (by adding an electric motor to the bed). The ultimate in plug and play! Hope you plan on showing more detailed drawing... I wanna see what this thing really looks like! Though have to tell you... Plymouth may have the name patented... they had a Backpack concept a few years back. The idea isn't the same... just the name.

Yes, that was stated already. How about a comment on the design/idea?This isn't a naming contest.

I think is a good idea, not new, but is still good, and I like the electric motor on the back, just try to think what you gonna do with the rear wheels of the compact car when you add the box.

In addition to the Plymouth Backpack concept, there was the Voyager III concept that was a minivan with a detachable microcar, similar to the above design.

    ah yes... this thing:

i vaguely remember that. i'm trying to find if there's any information as to how the two halves were stuck together.

regardless, mine's hybrid. and a pickup truck. and will look so much cooler than that thing. so it'll be better.

also, who really needs an 11-passenger minivan...?

    Re: Chevy Backpack econocar/pickup

I believe there was a concept car in Europe in the 80's or 90's with almost the same idea. Instead of a pickup bed it was a passenger compartment. Neat idea though!

    Re: Chevy Backpack econocar/pickup

i had so much less time to work on this than i thought i would. convertibrand too. below is a slightly more advanced sketch of the newly renamed chevy knapsack.

wish i had more time to work it than the ten minutes i just spent drawing on the floor while watching sportscenter, but, whatchagonnado?

rex, please use this image as my entry for the contest, thanks. (tho i fear the original might actually do a better jopb of explaining the concept!)

Thumbs up Re: Chevy Backpack econocar/pickup

I like on the new sketch how you made the wheels retract into the car. I thought that was a cool feature.
