    Art Center summer program work

This past week I was taking a week long class in transportation design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. The main focus of the class was the future of transportation and what changes will happen to it. And in addition to talking with industry people my class did a few projects, two half-day ones, a full-day and a two-day project.

    1st project:

We had to design either attachments/devices to expand the Segway brand. I ended up doing some quick sketches of a weather canopy, a Segway wheelchair and also a shield type thing for off-road use.

    2nd project:

The project was to design a small 7-10 seat autonomous minibus. The one I came up with was an electric MINI minibus, with the lounge-like seats surrounding the cabin.

    3rd project:

For the full-day one we were tasked with designing either a small food truck or delivery truck (which I chose) for 2050. I wanted to fix the issues of the current delivery truck while preserving the benefits. The end product was an electric and autonomous vehicle with a delivery man. I don't feel like typing out all the specifics of it right now but if you have any questions about this one by all means ask.

    The final project:

Over the last two days of the class we had to design a bus system for 2035. Now having ridden the bus for 5 years I knew what needed to be improved. The wait time would be taken care of with a quicker more efficient/better thought out bus system rather than driverless buses as was my first idea. Wondering where the bus is and when it will get there is also a major issue for bus riders do I came up with an "bus-tracker" system that will tell you where the bus is and its ETA via a screen at the stop or a cellphone app. The bus itself is called the Renault Zeb (zero emissions bus) and is fully electric with a fun, inviting design that is at the same time fully functional.

...nice illustrations (I'm an ex-commercial artist), but what's wrong with simple 3-across seating?

Nothing's wrong with the traditional layout as it's an effective way to seat people but it's boring. The idea of this project was to get people to want to ride the bus and the traditional layout isn't compelling. The layout I designed may not be able to seat more but it's comfortable and interesting which is what I designed it to be.

Super cool work, can you please whip up a quick supercar for the design contest thread, the comps have died.

Those are some really wild ideas, I especially like the minibus.

I think your handwriting alone has more drawing ability than I do.
