    2012 Chevy Malibu

Theophilus Chin, a fellow car chopper (http://www.theophiluschin.com), did up a rendering a few months back based on earlier Malibu spy shots and some leaked patent drawings.

    his original rendering

I think he did a great job but the rear end was too recognizable as having been frankenstein'd from Camaro bits. I wanted to expand upon his rendering a little based on the newly released spy shots this week. I wanted to fully flush out those crazy tail lights and rump to give a clear idea of what this is going to look like in production trim.

here is my take (tail light changes and other small detail adjustments)

i worry about the next Bu. i get that its supposed to infuse Camaro cues but it looks rather bland. like a watered down version of the current one.

Good job on the revisions. As for the car itself though, I can't say I'm sold. I think I prefer the current one, but my opinion could change in time (or in real life).

    Re: 2012 Chevy Malibu

I'm seeing too much Toyota Camry frankly (the shape of that back quarter window for example) and a bit too much Holden Epica (bland horrible rebadged Daewoo, can't remember the US name).

Inject even more Camaro DNA, I'd like to see it just as a test if those taillights were seperate squares instead of being intergrated into one light, and again with the shape of the glass on the back door, maybe BMW-style it or go for a different shape.

It's still a good chop and I do see potential just make it half Audi/BMW/Caddy and half Camaro, not Camry-Camaro.

Sorry that's all a bit harsh, but keep at it you're on to something.

I like the second one. Chrome ringlets on the tailights looks gaudy though on it.

chrome rings I think are close to production

If you look at the leaked patent drawings it looks like there will be some "ring" that frames the squared off lights - my guess, as with Theo, was that it will be plastic brightwork/chrome like the Camaro.

I can't tell you how much I hate those tailights and if that's the direction Chevy's going well, not much has changed from the old GM.

    Re: 2012 Chevy Malibu

Cheers Opel_Blitz I'm sure you see the connection, yeah the Epic-car was an epic-POS in my most humble opinion, well equipt and all, but just dull horrible GM-Daewoo relations.

Don't mind me though, I'm old fashion, I want small RWD C-Class 3-series competition and Holden Torana revival. It's probably not the way forward, the Prius will take over the world and I'll go back to having a donkey for transport.

On a more constructive note, you did make a big improvement. The bigger wheels take the attention from the rear overhang and actually make the proportions look ok.

Not the current model, but its predecessors were sold here; the Suzuki Verona and Daewoo Leganza.
