    2010 GMC Typhoon

    SOURCE: USA Today

2009 Detroit Auto Show; 1:30 PM: General Motors unveils the United States version of the Holden Utes, except this comes in a GMC package. Today, Bob Lutz anxiously revealed the 2010 GMC Typhoon, which stole the show! "Performance, Practicality, Possibilities. That's what the Typhoon stands for." quotes Rick Wagoner, following the reveal of the new GMC. According to Wagoner, the return of the Chevrolet El Camino has been officially scratched. "We've seen the El Camino, and sure, it was a hit, but it's the 21st century! Customers want satisfaction, style, and speed." Bob Lutz tells USA Today. A Denali version is supposedly in the works, rumored for the 2011 model year. This exclusive car will only be available in the US.

The base Typhoon is expected to get 300 horsepower, with the Denali hitting the 400 mark. The GMC has also been confirmed to deliver 18 mpg.

A HYBRID IN THE WORKS? This is the latest rumor spread across the planet. Will the GMC Typhoon have a hybrid model available? No confirmation has been made, but sources say there has been some talk about one inside GM. The hybrid would probably get 25 mpg, and that's if GM builds one.

The new Typhoon starts production in August of 2009, and will be available in showrooms no later than November. Prices for the GMC Typhoon are to range in the late-$20,000s and go as high up to $42,000 with the Denali edition.

Oh that's cool, I like it.
It'd be cool if they did that.

This is pretty much what I would like to see them do with the Ute import (besides El Camino). I like the grill, I like the name, Syclone would work too.

Would there really be any volume to be found for a two seat pickup?

As long as its planned as a relatively inexpensive niche vehicle its fine..

I don't expect any volume from this product.

not enough changed for me personally. but i guess it would make sense with basically the same end as the pontiac, being that pontiac, gmc, and buick are all sold in the same lot

I agree, the Typhoon was a ute. This body should NOT come to the US. The GTO was a bomb, and an El camino would do even worse. I hope GM knows better than this.

    rebadge = world exclusive

Oh well at least the IRS and integrated tray means it would be the only 'pickup' sold by GMNA that positively definately does NOT suffer from 'bed shake' .. a-la that Ford promo video which depicts those rough-road rattlers aka Tundra, F-series & GMT-900

    Re: 2010 GMC Typhoon

I still bet GM is smart enough to make a totally new body for the El Camino, and being that since they denied the Ute going to Chevy, and this showing up as the GMC.

My only complaints is give it a much more GMC-like grille and head lights. Its not that hard to make a new front fascia.

Imagine more chrome with the drilled-hole looking grile.

I'm OK with this but they should have used a different color for the release.

Do you think thats an official picture? Looks like the Ute with the Acadia's grill photoshopped on to me.

As far as I can make out he means he Holden shoudl have used a different colour for the release of the Ute - but he likes the GMC.

This seems a rather ironic opinion from someone that owns a low volume, niche vehicle like the Z06. But, that's JMO.

Anyone have sales numbers for regular cab compact/mid/full size trucks?

I would definitely make this my primary vehicle -- minus the side molding.
