Re: Would you like more product focused discussions on GMI?

I do like the idea of product focused discussions. But to be fair, it is hard to truly gauge how a model breakdown could be successful by using the Camaro forum as an example. The Camaro itself is a very hot performance car that ignites the passions of owners and dreamers alike.

Perhaps a "GM Performance" car forum would work... Let it encompass everything from classic GM muscle to modern GM tuners. I'm sure this could attract the broad range of those who prefer to discuss Chevelles, 442's and GTO's, and also those who like to discuss modern performance cars like the ION Redline and G8 GT & GXP.

    Just a thought...

A GM Classic Car discussion forum would be pretty cool.

Like the single product focused forum, but would like an easier way to navigate the general forum - lot of areas and hard to find threads sometimes without using "search".

    Keep the new ideas coming.

    Absolutely not.

Nothing gets boring faster for me than two guys arguing about what kind of fog lights a Buick should have.

I think you're missing the concept.

The Press Room (all of the forums that say "news" in the title) would remain unchanged.

The Discussion Section of the site would change. Instead of having "Cadillac/Buick Discussion" we would have "Enclave/Acadia/Traverse Discussion."

The point of doing it that was is to avoid redundancy between the press room and discussion section. The discussion section would be the place, really, for owners to go and talk shop. While the news forums would be what they are today.

Quite frankly, what GMI doesn't need is another Fap Forum.

Im not sure if child forums for each brand for each car is the right thing to do. Would it be every single car that GM offers? That is a lot of subforums to have.

Perhaps someday. But give the Camaro Forum some time to blossom. I think there are more pressing needs/better ways to grow this place.

Re: Would you like more product focused discussions on GMI?

Sub-forums will be kept to a minimum. As Nick said, it is planned for the new product-focused discussion forums to replace the current brand-focused discussion forums.

Basically, the new forums will cover all of GM's products in a similar way to the new Camaro forum. Most products will be grouped by platform (example: Regal, LaCrosse, Lucerne, Malibu & Insignia) while others will be grouped by their unique position (example: Volt & Ampera). But don't fear - our traditional brand-focus discussions will still be accommodated within this new arrangement.

Isn't this site really geared to Camaro and G8 anyway? (with a little CTS on the side)

Re: Would you like more product focused discussions on GMI?

I'd like to see a "What is Known" section for engines and platforms that would be a sticky, showing currently known information and insider information.
For example, the production information of the new GM V8 just announced, augmented with additional information. The topic might be New GM V8 to be produced in Tonawanda, NY. Additional information might be type of V8, displacement, materials used, camshafts, injectors, and all facets of the engine. If a supercharged version is announced, it would be added to the known information. And so on.
Same for platforms. Say Apha platform, materials used, specifications, length, width, weight, versions, and so on.
As stickies, they could be always on the topics screen and easily accessed.

Re: Would you like more product focused discussions on GMI?

One area of GMI I find disappointing is the engine info area. I was trying to use it as reference, but it leaves out some pretty major specs - like bore and stroke. Why not have pretty much all known specs available for each engine? It's not like that stuff changes every month. I'd much rather see more raw data than the snarky comments like "The 3.4 V6 will not be missed by anybody."
