    Thread Closing for Dubious Reasons

The thread about a snake crawling out from under an SUV's hood was closed for what IMO are questionable reasons.

Everyone there has been here a while.

    "Free posts" is a stretch.
"Trolling"? Trying to cause flame wars? Ridiculous.

More like a mod's lack of a sense of humor and getting called out on it.

And yes we were having fun. I guess that's frowned on by some mods?

    I hope everyone had fun!

Closing due to a combination of rule violations:

    Quote:
    7. Free posts, or posting solely for the purpose of boosting your post count will not be tolerated.

    11. "Trolling", or making posts with the sole intention of creating problems on the forums is obviously against the forum guidelines. This includes registering an alternate account for the sole purpose of creating problems on the forums. "Troll accounts" will be locked immediately and permanently, and can be locked without notification to the offender. We define trolling as a member that appears to have the sole purpose of posting just to spite the majority of the site or cause flame wars in threads they participate in. PLEASE respect differing opinions on the site at all times!

I wasn't involved in the thread because I didn't see it until after it was closed. I agree with you Neanderthal. It was just some light humour and really shouldn't have been shut down. I've seen a lot of other threads and posts which were a lot more worthy of breaking the rules not be dealt with. Must have been a slow day on the forum and the moderators were itching to exercise some power.
Research is what I am doing when I don't know what I am doing.

Re: Thread Closing for Dubious Reasons

    I closed it.

    1. None of the replies had anything to do with the original post.
    2. The original post could be considered trolling the pro-SUV crowd.
    3. One post made fun of a moderator, which isn't really nice, now is it?
    4. And the whole thing was in car discussion, when none of the posted replies had any relevance to automobiles.

I like fun threads (Uzzy's picture posts were hilarious in that thread), but that one was just an off-topic free-post free-for-all, which is not allowed.

If you'd like that thread moved to either of these more appropriate forums, that can be done:

    https://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f45/
    https://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f59/

Otherwise, as a car discussion, it'll remain closed.

Then you'd best prepare yourself for a buttload of thread closings....

I can understand the poor performance of the other noob mods charged with the task, since they're all wet-behind-the-ears, but I expect nothing less than perfect balance, discretion and reason from someone of your calibre.

Well, good. That's exactly what I have been delivering. Shame you can't see all of the PMs that I send kindly advising people that they've done something wrong enough for a violation, but all I'm asking is for them to be more cognizant going forward. I think any of the dozen or so people that have received such a PM instead of being infracted or banned will agree that I've been nothing but discrete, balanced, and fair.

But if you'd like to judge my entire performance based on the fact that I closed an inane, pointless thread (that's now been re-opened--unedited--in a more proper location), then by all means have at it.

If I were to judge you.... I would have been quite harsh! Clearly the curt nature of my comment in itself lent to the obvious: that I was critical of a single act, not of the nature of the actor.

Also, you must read the word expect in its proper context. Remember, I prevail from more polite environs where respectful encouragement, not passive-aggressive and snide derision, is both intention and contention. To "expect nothing less than perfect balance..." suggests the assumption that this, and only this, behavior would be the prevailing norm.

In other words.... lighten up! I ain't bustin' ya chops!

    I got ya.

Since the main issue brought forth by this thread has been resolved, this is now a closed issue.

I hope a good time was had by all.
