    Is there a way to "block" an entire forum?

    This place has been getting overrun with political topics, and it would be nice to ignore the entire forum. I usually navigate the site by the "find new posts" buttons and it's becoming a pain in the ass to navigate through those to find actual car discussions. This is a car forum, not a damn politics site. Having a political forum isn't a bad thing, but when more people seem more interested in that than the intelligent automotive banter that brought me to the forum, there's a problem.

    I wouldn't mind a way for a user to select what he wants to block also. I am interested in politics and don't mind a political argument, politics typically makes my blood boil. I come to GMI as a place to enjoy auto topics. Though I don't have to go into the political threads, sometimes just seeing the headline sets me off. If there was an option for me to block seeing political threads I think I would use it.

    Please note that I don't mind them being there....

    A Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey script can be used to filter table rows like this example that is customized for GMI. Note that Chrome has a special procedure to install local user scripts and it nags you about Developer mode on startup. (The GMI site must have a security setting that is changing the closing curly brace at the end to two asterisks, so fix that when you save the text to a local file like gmi_forum_filter.user.js)

    // ==UserScript==
    // @name Vbulletin screen unwanted OCAU topics (GMI)
    // @namespace http://userscripts.org/users/117756
    // @description vBulletin: Hides selected forums from search results
    // @include https://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/s...php?searchid=*
    // @grant none
    // ==/UserScript==

    // The HIDDEN_FORUMS array holds comma-delimited quoted names of forums to hide, e.g. new Array("Fun Zone/ Check This Out!", "The Lounge");

    var HIDDEN_FORUMS = new Array("Politics");

    var forumNamePredicates = ".= '" + HIDDEN_FORUMS.join("' or .= '") + "'";
    var xpathExpression = "id('searchbits')/li[div/div/p/a[" + forumNamePredicates + "]]";
    var rows = document.evaluate(xpathExpression, document, null, XPathResult.UNORDERED_NODE_SNAPSHOT_TYPE, null);

    for(var i = 0; i < rows.snapshotLength; i++) {
    var row = rows.snapshotItem(i);
    row.style.display = "none";

    I dunno, I never found it all that hard to only click on the topics that interest me. An option to not see them would be useful, but is it that difficult? It's true that we've gone crazy on political threads lately, simply because they're allowed again, but it will get old quickly and people will forget about them and we'll be back to berating Toyota again like a good GM forum in no time!

    Re: Is there a way to "block" an entire forum?

    The Offtopic/Political section should prbably not show up in New Posts. I wonder if it is as easy as clicking a few buttons or if it may require a modification to the queries, even that should be easy.

    while -or Where- (subforum not equal Politics)

    Re: Is there a way to "block" an entire forum?

    yeah ... I have began posting in there, just to balance out the tin-hat posts, but my ideal prefernece is to be able to hide the posts altogether. As with All Star, my way into the forum is the New Posts search (hell the URL I have bookmarked for GMI is the new posts search). The politics threads are a major distraction. I am not here to hear about newest misogynistic load against Hillary or whatnot. I have other places I go to argue politics. I am here to learn about cars.

    I think you are making a mountain out of a mole-hill.

    Right now the new posts page has 19 threads, I've only read/replied to 4 of them (one being political); point being there are far more "car" threads that are B/S that I want to ignore, than political, I can't imagine you have a view that is much different.

    You can still learn about cars here. The quality and quantity of car-related threads haven't suffered. Next week is another auto show, so it will get exciting soon enough.

    There is a total of 15 Political Threads that have activity within the last 7 days, yet there is currently 26 threads showing up on the New Posts page, meaning activity within the last three hours, and only 2 of them being political.

    Ha - I got "yelled at" last year for posting a video and not having the word "video" in my thread title. Apparently I wasted a persons time who is anti-video, the time it took him to go into the thread and find out it was a video was apparently a good portion of his life.

    Try GM Authority for a change . Articles and pictures change regularly and political articles are few and far between . Mind you Ms. Barra's big accomplishment , solving the dress code dilemma , is in here . Not sure why I think this seems to fit into a political agenda , but politicians love patting themselves on the back , so perhaps there is a correlation ??

    Here's my request:

    Can we get an "add picture" button that does not attach the photo, but instead codes it "[img] [/img]"? It gets really old having to type that out, and the current picture attachment system is nothing but a waste.
