    "Pop-up" Flash Ads?

I was in the reader's talen section looking at A.J.'s new design, and as the page loads, a flash survey popup floats across the screen...

Are we supposed to be seeing these? I haven't seen any popup ads in years from GMI (and I am signed in) so is this the beginning of these horribly annoying ads? BTW, there was no option to close the floating window.

I haven't seen it, but then again I use Firefox and AdBlock Plus...I don't see any ads.

It isn't new. It IS annoying. You can go to that advertiser's website, and disable the ads. But that is only temporary. The green underscored text-links came back a few days later.

I guess someone has to pay the bills? Grr.

Maybe because you use Internet Explorer? I have never seen an ad on GMI since I block every one with AdBlock+

Can you block these on the User CP?

Safari + adblock does a good job for me.

I use IE and only get the occassional text-link popups... if I'm not careful with the mouse!

You should be able to turn off the green text pop up ads "Intellitxt" ads, in your User CP. I am going to have to figure out why the option is not appearing under "Edit Options". Also, the big ad in the screenshot should not be getting through. We generally don't serve flash ads that impede the site functions. Thanks for bringing all this to my attention!

Yes, thank you for checking in on it!

I've not had any problems with IE and ads other than this...

Agreed! I could never browse without AdBlock Plus. A much cleaner, less obtrusive experience.
