Memorial Day Thread on GMI home page

    https://www.gminsidenews.com/articles...-memorial-day/

Memorial day is not for those in the armed forces, nor those who served. Its for those that have fallen, died protecting our country. There are distinct differences in Armed Forces day, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day. American's are too lazy to take 5 seconds to understand the difference, much less take 30 seconds and reflect on the millions that have died for this nation. Its disturbing as an American how many of us don't know anything about our history or our country, nor do we care it seems.

Would be nice if GMI corrected this story even after the fact.

Didn't even bother reading the post when it went up, but I'd expect better from an official post. The lounge post here would have given them a clue since that group of people actually understand the difference.

I do not believe that there is any industry in the US and Canada - probably Australia as well that has more active and retired military veterans than the auto industry. Both salaried and union. Many of those veterans were either drafted or volunteered for military service and never came home. I was in a co-op program with GM in the mid-60s and knew several of them. I came home and they didn't. Those individuals contributed to the auto industry in addition to their country with their military service. The official post could have done a better job in tying the US holiday to the auto industry or at least GM. I do not want to be too critical because I appreciated the effort. In the spirit of continuous improvement there is always next Memorial year.

You say that sarcastically, but there is an important distinction. You may not see the significance, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.

Here's a useful image for your convenience taken from the Memorial Day thread.

Somewhat. The celebratory aspects of Memorial Day are less than classy or true to the day, but that's what we've become. It's not a day of celebration. Even supposed media, news anchors and the guy running evening on SiriusXM Classic Rewind keep saying "Happy Memorial Day". Maybe I'm being picky but the details matter, especially so those that gave their life for their country. Pretty solemn somber day really in its true sense.

I'm not being sarcastic at all. I never saw the post yesterday so I have no idea if it did say something different originally.

Sorry, I took your ellipses to have alternate meaning than a simple question mark.

Yes the current version is different contextually different than the original.

The original was thanking those that served with beer, bikinis, and burnouts. Now it reflects beer, bikinis, burnouts, vets, and those that paid the ultimate price.

The second paragraph is wrong still. Memorial day is not about veterans, or those that currently serve, or who have served or military who fought Nazis ISIS or anyone. Its for those that died while serving the country across history.
