Improvement suggestions for the next version of GMI

I traded a few posts with Nruggiero, without going into details he suggested I start a thread to solicit improvements to GMI with the idea of incorporating in the next site update. So I'm starting such a thread.

My two cents is I find starting a thread to be buried, i.e. difficult to find. My suggestion is to have a "thread starter" button along the top of the main page. Press this button and you will get options such as:

Do you want to start a GM related thread? Press here.
Do you want to start a thread on a competitor? Press here.
Do you want to start a thread on a non-automotive related topic? Press here.

And so on. This will make it nice and easy to start a thread and direct everyone to the right area (I didn't know I was posting in the wrong areas).

What are your ideas? Be nice

I agree that the site needs to be "simplified". It's a little too overwhelming. Actually, the previous site was better in terms of finding things. So, I think it could be more organized and simplified.

Also, the logo needs updating.... The C6 Corvette needs to go, and there needs to be a vehicle that represents each brand GM owns.... And maybe some legendary GM vehicles as well.

How about the most significant vehicle from each decade, or if to difficult to fit the most significant from each quarter century? Most tend to overlook significant vehicles from before 1950 (and especially before 1925) as many of us weren't even alive. We could even have voting for what we all think are the most significant.

Yes! That's a much better idea.

I'll start off from the top of my head:

    1900s: ?
    1910s: ?
    1920s: ?
    1930s: ?
    1940s: ?
    1950s: Cadillac Eldorado/Corvette
    1960s: Chevrolet Camaro
    1970s: 1971 Buick Riviera/Pontiac Trans Am
    1980s: Saturn
    1990s: GMT400 pick-ups
    2000s: Hummer H2
    2010s: ?

    I'll say:
1980's - agree - Saturn, it proved GM could build a competitive small car
1990's - the Cadillac Seville - showed Caddy & GM still had "it"
2000's - CTS - brought Cadillac back from the brink
    2010's - Volt

Before the 1980's I just don't know enough about the cars to provide a relevant opinion.

I'm not sure about the Seville for the 90s. The best Seville was the 2nd generation, imo.... For the 90s, I'd probably say the GMT400 pick-ups.

    Volt? Maybe.

I vote for one vehicle of each brand. Stingray, Regal GS, Sierra, and ATS or new CTS.

I request all of them performing powerslides across the top.

The only update that I'd like to see is the name of the thread starter under the thread name in the News Ticker. Or maybe the section they are posted under. And the option to customize what areas we see.

I'd like for those of you who get all upset when we take down your article, only to put up one that we have properly formatted, to format the damn articles properly.

I'd also like to hear from you guys what else you think we can do to make the site better as far as news coverage. Do you want more videos? Reviews? Interviews?

Or both, like you get when you use the 'New Posts' button (although I don't know why people navigate with the News Ticker when the New Posts page is so superior to it when following threads).

If you regularly visit GMI, there is no difficulty whatsoever. "If it ain't broke...." Don't forget that people have gotten used to it.

A couple of forums I am a member of has a few different skins you can choose from, instead of trying to find one look that can please everyone, you can come up with a couple different ones, change up the color pallet, different header panels, black background instead of the current white, etc. just a thought

How about when you click a button to create a new post the first half of the page contains the rules for a proper post and below is where you actually post?

I'd like more reviews either video or written.

Another idea is to link up GM's stock price so it's always at the top of the main page.

How about getting rid of those annoying pop-up ads that cover the bottom of all the pictures?
