But that Indianapolis 500 pace car was far removed from the Bravada’s […]

It seems this was an effort to give the dealers what they wanted, but alas it sort of turned out to be a repeat of the Cadillac Cimarron fiasco.

Was it poorly received? I don't recall much about it.

The first gen Bravada wasn't as poorly received by critics as the Cimarron, though it was a rushed effort and did have its vocal critics.
I would say that the comparison should be with the first gen Escalade, which was awkwardly not fooling anyone. But was
a good enough idea to be expanded in the following generation.

The Cimarron, which actually sold in ok numbers, is part of the reason Cadillac is having trouble connecting with buyers to this day, because they actually sold quite a few of them. But they were awful "luxury" cars, and simply a very bad idea from the start... They planted the seed, more than any other model or executive decision, of Cadillac mediocrity.

The Bravada became pretty popular, as people were starting their migration to SUV's in the 1990's, and was good enough to spawn three generations. The Bravada was one of the last three models built by Oldsmobile in 2004, with the Silhouette and Alero... And the third gen Bravada was the last "new" model introduced by Oldsmobile when it launched in 2002.
