Mid-Engine Corvettes are Great But What GM Needs is a Corvette SUV, Says Bob Lutz

With the C8 Corvette set to be revealed on July 18, you could be forgiven for getting a little excited. But Bob Lutz thinks you’re getting excited about the wrong thing. What he thinks the Corvette brand really needs is an SUV. Speaking to Automotive News, the former GM executive argued that Corvette is facing […]

And yet someone just dropped 15 grand to get a pair of tickets to the reveal. Crazy money for a car with no interest in it.

Lutz is right. GM is again 10-15-20 years behind the power curve.

Porsche has utes. I rest my case.

What GM could use is a Corvette Sub-brand....kinda like GMs Porsche sold alongside Cadillac to offer a FE sportscar, ME sportscar, sedan, CUV, and EV. But the ship sailed on that a while ago... Best they can do now is what they're doing...i guess.

The world is changing, sports cars like the Corvette and Camaro don't resonate with the public like they used to. People want CUV's, GM should have a sport CUV out there by now. I'll let GM figure out what brand or brands because I am torn. Taking Corvette out of the picture, I think everyone will say a performance CUV belongs in Cadillac, but the Corvette muddies the water....

There definitely should've been an Alpha CUV from Cadillac out by now. I just don't see how a C2XX can be sporty by any stretch...its performance ceiling is somewhere around MB/BMWs baseline performance.

A sport CUV - sure. One called Corvette? Lutz is senile.

Corvette crosstrek would be a huge hit...either twin turbo six, lt2 v8 or a complete electrified platform would be extremely successful.

Just as most 911 owners spouses own a porsche cuv....corvette owners also would purchase a corvette crosstrek for their spouses...

Its a no brainer for a hot rod soft roader..4 door sport cuv

Zora Arkus-Duntov pushed the mid engine Corvette concept forever when he was around. And he was not a shy man.
Nice to see they've finally gotten around to it.

Lutz is wrong, GM needs to be where Toyota Was in 1970. Building from the ground up a global distribution network around it's home over capacity. This is a consumer product business after all.

No quick bucks here. Build a proper sales network around the globe, and you can have corvettes.

No brainer. Also a no brainer for Cadillac to have a version. There's room for them both to live I believe.

Everyone is jumping in the ring. Remember Ferrari and Bugatti too...
The upcoming Ferrari Purosangue and Bugatti (they dont want you to call it a crossover or SUV but rather high riding cross-coupe).

I disagree, but only slightly. Porsche has shown they can sell 'utes which have to be ungodly profitable. THAT'S why Corvette needs a 'ute.
