    GMC: Moving From the Middle?

GMC’s an interesting brand. Free of cars from the outset (Sprint/Caballero notwithstanding), General Motors’ truck brand seems well-positioned to turn America’s unquenchable thirst for trucks and utility vehicles into big, big bucks. For the most part, it has, yet glaring shafts of white space remain in the brand’s lineup. Time for a little rearranging? Automotive […]

My guess is the space will be filled with one of the new battery vehicles.

GMC is getting the HUMMER brand to take care of Jeep. What GMC needs to do is go after Commercial market, including tractor units like Freightliner etc. GM is expansion of GMC brand into heavy commercial vehicles would be a great avenue for GM defense to take on Oshkosh and the likes

having worked on GMC Astro's and Generals + Ford Louisville I will say the way GM / ALL CAR makers treat the commercial / fleet businesses A LOT will have to CHANGE BIG TIME
parts availability on top kicks that are 10 years old are near as impossible to get and getting diagnostic software / documentation is nearly impossible / very expensive as the automakers have done a LOT to "lock" customers into
going to the dealer where as fleets will do anything to avoid DEALERS because of down time is way costlier than the repair costs
it is common to repair and "eat" warranty costs if it "saves" a $100000 dollar load
this is NOT "only" GM BUT ALL car makers are doing this
medium duty and "specialized" chassis is where GM SHOULD PUSH and NOT get involved in class 7-8 down there is a LOT MORE "retail" focused and less "fleet" and a LOT of the fleets will buy Hino / Peterbilt / Mitsu ETC depending on there class 8 trucks and the selling dealers mid duty offerings

Both Navistar and OshKosh make "specialty" equipment yet "struggle" in the class 8 and down OTH trucks and both have a reputation of being absolute toilets but are nearly the ONLY game for very heavy duty specialized stuff
