    Opel coming to South America

I spotted that French article posted on February 12 about PSA plans for Opel in South America. https://www.leblogauto.com/2020/02/o...ue-latine.html

I suspect then some Opel models will be assembled in PSA and/or FCA plants in Agentina and Brazil.

While everyone prophesies doom, remember PSA has to get its **** together with FCA, and that costs money, they need to invest in this thing called Zero Zero Zero, in case you have not noticed, Tesla actually exists.
The Zero, Zero Zero thing costs money
Further more, Those Opels are not engineered like the Opels of yore, they are engineered to PSA standards...

PSA struggles to complete with VW, and VW cannot get a foothold in North America.

Ford and GM do very well is South America.

    Anyways, Good luck to PSA.

Hopefully Mother's gable pays off for GM, and hopefully, Chevrolet replaces Holden in Australia at some point.

How can it? GM's press release refers to withdrawing from the global RHD markets - once they're gone, they're gone!

Indeed for many years GM sold Opels re-badged as Chevrolets in South America. In fact the first ever passenger car Chevrolet built in Brazil was the Opala, which was an Opel Rekord C with engines from the Chevrolet Impala, the 2.5 4 cylinder and the straight six cylinder 3.8. A common myth is that the name Opala was a portmanteau of Opel and Impala, but GM denied that. Chevrolet built the Opala from 1968 to 1992 and they sold one million units. The car has a huge cult following in Brazil. The most valuable version being the very rare SS 6 with the 171 hp 4.1 straight six 250-S engine.

Anyway, if PSA intends to sell Opel in South America, then I guess Opel will be getting a pickup version of the new Peugeot Landtrek as well?

    ... and Japan.

    - Comeback in Japan next year
    - Start with three models: Corsa, Combo Life and Grandland X
    - Electrified variants from day one
    - Further models to follow
    - Growth through new export markets is at the core of the PACE! plan

The fact they are withdrawing now does not mean they will not expand again at some point in the future. we will see I guess.
