Re: About this new 6.6 gasser...

After some research, it looks like the block is going to be LT based and not LS based like the Vortec 6.0.

This bring up some interesting possibilities and makes more sense as the current Vortec block maxes out in bore and stroke at 6.7 liters, I doubt GM would want to run a new engine on the edge as the pistons will be alot closer to falling out of block at BDC, a iron L86 based block wont have this issue as there is more room at BDC.

GM would have to make a new block if in fact the do go with a LT based engine because as far as I know there currently is no Iron LT based direct injection block available.

There have been rumors of a "LTX" based block coming to market particularly from the aftermarket but as of yet I have not seen anything come to fruition.

If this ends up how I think as a iron based engine with extended cylinder bores and direct injection, this motor could turn out to be a real screamer especially when the aftermarket gets their hands on it.

I’m really interested in this engine in a 2500HD.

I am thinking a raised deck iron LT block. They probably want to hold the bore to 4" for emissions, a tall deck block gets the cubic inches, solves the BDC issue, and makes for a good rod ratio and low-end torque.

I saw somewhere the 6.6L being referred to as the 'LXX'.

Looks like it is a iron version of the L86, according to this same bore as the 6.2 w/ 6mm longer stroke.

This should have forged crankshaft, not sure about the pistons or rods. 10.8:1 compression iirc (little low for a d.i. engine)

Forged crank, no AFM. Also has piston cooling oil jets and a ridiculously heavy duty water pump.

I saw TFL Truck’s video from the Flint factory of a GM engineer going over the engine. I think it’s going to be an outstanding engine. Love the fact it has DI but no AFM or the new dynamic version.

Piston cooling makes sense, since I believe all the other Gen V engines do.
