    My CT6 Loaner

I brought my 2014 CTS to the dealer this morning so they could address a couple of things that didn't get fixed the last time. To my pleasant surprise, they gave me a CT6 loaner. It's a 2.0T with about 860 miles on it. I think it's a base model. I told the service manager to keep my car as long as he needed -- haha! I just wish I didn't have to go to work later, so I could really give it a thorough review.

Observations from my drive home from the dealership with an errand in between:

    - I love the ride. It seems to ride smoother than my CTS. It's less sporty but not in a floaty way. I really like it.

    - The auto start/stop is far less annoying than it was in my experience in a previous gen Malibu. That said, the car still shakes a bit when it fires back up. I ended up disabling the start/stop. Based on the amount of fingerprints on the disable button, others have had the same impressions.

    - Acceleration is fine. I have the 2.0T in my CTS, and acceleration seemed pretty much the same. I guess the CT6 might be a little better, since it's supposedly lighter.

    - I like the looks, especially the profile and the front. It's a classy car. I'm embarrassed to say I didn't even realize I was getting a CT6 at first. I had approached the car from behind and thought it was an XTS. As I was driving it, absolutely no one gave this car a second look, which is a shame. I'm a big fan of the car's gray paint. It reminds me of the old "Thunder Gray."
I noticed the 2.0T only has tail pipes on one side.

    - CUE is an improvement over my 2014 version. The screen is huge and it's not as laggy.

    - The size of this car is most appreciated in the back seat. There's a ton of room back there, even with the driver's seat set for me. I'm comfortable in the back of my CTS as well, but this seems way bigger.

    - Unfortunately, this car's downfall is the interior. The materials are just disappointing. I wish they weren't, but they are. Too many things are hard plastic and/or feel cheap. I know this has been discussed a lot here on GMI, but the hard plastic on the door panels and center console are bad. The carpet is thin. The armrest is flimsy and creaks with an unfortunate plastic-on-plastic sound when I put my arm on it. The steering wheel, however, is nice and thick -- I like it.

    ===========

    Edit:

A few things I've noticed after having the car for a day:

    - The aforementioned center console armrest still squeaks, but there's something cool about it -- it can open both towards the driver and towards the passenger. I don't think I'd ever seen that before.

    - I used the Apple CarPlay. I love it. I wish there was a software update for my 2014 CTS that would include CarPlay.

    - This CT6 has heated seats but not ventilated seats. I was looking for them yesterday when it was 85 degrees, but they're not there. My CTS has them.

    Enjoy the pics!

Appreciate your candor, interior doesn't look overly impressive based on your photos..............

I did see one in a neighbors driveway, he's got an ATS, so I assume his car was in the shop (again) too. Anyway, from the curb it was impressive looking.

As troubling as I, and I'm sure many others, find your comments, I think this is the one I find most troubling................

    I suspect that's why I got the CT6.

Thank you for the great unbiased and straightfoward feedback. I expected something to give, given how cheap this car is, its an effective replacement for the XTS from a price point, and that price gives Cadillac a play at Genesis and Lexus LS level, given its platform must be super expensive, to sell it cheap, they had to give up something.

Glad to hear CUE is much improved

Could you see yourself paying $56,000.00 and living with the cheapness vis a vis a fully loaded $80,000.00 plus model?

Yes. My CTS had a sticker of $50,400. I could see paying $56,000 for the extra room. I think CT6 might be hard to justify on the upper end, but I haven't driven the 3.0TT, or even the 3.6, to make a judgement. This car also doesn't have several signature features like the rear-view camera/mirror and the Panaray audio, so I can't test them out either.

The one i drove had the V6 and a was a step or two up. I made a point of checking out the interior quality. Nothing creaked or squeaked. I'm wondering if your loaner was the base model, with a cheaper interior. I really liked what the dash did when i fired it up.

    Re: My CT6 Loaner

My dealer said they're getting CT6s in this month. Still not an Escalade on the lot.

For not even 1,000 miles, that's one dirty ass interior. Audi guys tried to give me a Q7 one time that had an interior covered in sticky coffee spills and was missing the sheetmetal over the door to the gas tank. Told them I was coming back the next day for a new loaner.

How much does it cost to re-source your plastics, and why is this even a question I have to ask?

PS, I like your house. What I can see looks pretty and well-manicured.

Glad they tuned it to a more "touring" setup, as not all of us want something setup for the track.

Makes you wonder why the updated the 3.6L and not the 2.0T? An updated 2.0T would be plenty of power with CT6's lower weight (and upcoming 10 speed) as the volume engine and could be used internationally.

I chuckled when I read that. On a more serious note, while the buyers of large luxury sedans tend to prefer a more conservative design, it probably hurts it if its not from Bavaria.

My biggest gripe with Alpha is how tight it feels on the interior, glad Omega seems to have corrected that error in judgement.

But, But, But everybody said Envoy was craaaazy for thinking that. I haven't been impressed with the interior, which is too bad, considering how good the platform is supposed to be. Even in the base model, Cadillac needs to take it up another level - there should be ZERO squeeks on any CT6 model, regardless of trim level. A large luxury CAR is all about making you feel good driving it and being pampered while doing it.

The Escalade was always flashy enough to make up for what looked like a simple truck interior on the inside (though materials have usually been nice).
Not sure the CT6 is enough of a head turner to get regular people to not notice the hard lower doors.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. That gray paint looks nice.

There is no excuse for Cadillac to use cheaper materials and cost cut on areas very obvious like others stated on here to keep cost down. There was no cost cutting on Alpha, except for the rear seat and trunk volume, so there is no reason for Cadillac and GM not providing higher grade softer plastics in the lower part of the doors, side of the console, offer better grade carpeting and offer more luxury and technology on the car that is currently lacking on the Platinum trim models. The Platinum models have that ugly-ass black plastic airbag cover where it should been leather-padded and color matched. I love the car but at the same time not too crazy about it also because of those so-called sacrifices. The interior of the CTS looks better than CT6. I would have to go with the XTS or CTS over the CT6 until several updates takes effect and makes it more flagship caliber.

This car reminds me more of a DTS replacement instead of a flagship. If Cadillac put in higher grade stuff with more quality and luxury and charge $5K more, IMO, I think it would had been worth it and customers will easily brag of how much nicer the car is at a lower price than they had at $20K on their previous car.

In the pics, the car on the inside looks nice but it could look nicer with enhanced quality.
