    cadillac northstar head gasket

I have a 2002 Cadillac with 70000 miles on it. I can let it idle for an hour and the heat gauge stays where it should. When I drive it, it stays there about 20 to 30 minutes and then jumps quickly to the max temp. The radiator fluid holder was low so I filled it up and it is staying full. It seems like if I hit the high speeds, it goes down. Does this sound like head gasket?

You can get a leak detector kit from your local auto part store to check for a head gasket issue. Something like THIS.
Straights are for fast cars, corners are for fast drivers.

Could be one of many things!
Only a proper diagnosis will tell you if you have the dreaded pre 2003 n-star
    "pulled head bolt" issue.

Oh, goodness. I'm just about to buy a new and I'm doing my research here. Is this Northstar engine in the 2017 Escalade?

Do a block test. The kit is $25 from autozone. Very easy to do yourself.

No. The Escalade has a completely different type of engine. They've been very reliable for the last ~4 years since they've been out.
