Cadillac names: what would you pick?

I'm hoping Cadillac goes back to real names.

Their biggest money maker has a real name, Escalade. That should be a big clue to go back to names.

I would name the CT6 Fleetwood, and the crossovers Deville.

DeVille is the biggest name in Caddy history. The crossovers look similar, so they could be named DeVille 6, 5, 4, etc.

The CTS could be Eldorado or perhaps a new name

Re: Cadillac names: what would you pick?

I like Cadillac as THE name. Vehicle names are a distraction. They've made the change back to alpha-numerics (like Cadillac historically had) and they need to keep it this way for awhile. Cadillac's "system" has a logic to it that makes sense and it works. Fleetwood, Deville, Brougham all sound like old people's cars. I say if they want names it should be on halo type vehicles only and no heritage names, use new ones like the recent showcars - Ciel, etc..

And changing to names will not put one cent onto the bottom line, no additional sales will be made by changing the CT6 to "Fleetwood Broughm".

Re: Cadillac names: what would you pick?

I would suggest using concept cars' names where they identify an appropriate model. Escala, Ciel, Elmiraj, Cien and Sixteen could all work. Also some past names could work, such as El Dorado and STS.
Escalade stands alone and doesn't need to be changed.
XT crossovers could get new name(s).
CTS has been out long enough that it carries a recognizable name and meaning. Changing it to CT5 does nothing for it.
Fleetwood has little meaning now, as Cadillac history is abandoned. Likewise Deville, which could fit the current XTS.
An XLR type vehicle could be a Ciel.
There are plenty of good names, including names with historic value. Just choose wisely!

The legacy names are meaningless and could even have negative connotations.

To millenials like myself Eldorado conjures up images of 80s and 90s Cadillac malaise. I would never buy a car called Eldorado, what am I 80 years old?

Deville has a similar problem, but less so.

Cadillac needs new names, like Escala. Now that sounds cool. Escalade Sport for the smaller Escalade model. Ciel for the flagship.

    I agree with this completely.

Using names like Deville and Brougham and Fleetwood make me think of some old car driving slow in the left lane.

Use the concept car names if you're going to use names.

personally I do NOT like the CT#/XT# "system" BUT IMHO in mID revamp the WORST thing to do is THROW OUT what they have for the SAKE of CHANGE LEAVE IT ALONE give the "HALO" products NAMES BUT leave the "commodity" models as they are as that is what people expect

I've always liked those names too. They were unique.

Using alphanumerics is just as ridiculous. Cadillac's vehicles have no personality when they're simply a number. Have you ever wondered why Cadillac's recent marketing sucks? Perhaps it's because they don't have much to work with.

So what are you saying, if Cadillac named their cars the advertising will be better? Calling the ATS "Coupe de Old Fart" will result in Continental-like sales? Oh, wait, Continental waiting list of 60,000 people evaporated faster than Tesla's profits and sells virtually no better than the CT6.

So explain the success of the Germans using alpha-numerics? How did Ford ever get off the ground using "Model T"? How did Cadillac make it the first 50 or so years using alpha-numeric?

Cadillac already has a name, "Cadillac". Putting names on the current line-up will do squat to improve sales. Names are a preference and can be a distraction from the brand when a particular model outshines the brand. Cadillac just changed the names, they need to stick with them for awhile.

They need to focus on building what people want, arguing about the names is just a distraction.

Call the flagship couple/sedan/cabrio Eldorado or use Eldorado as a special order ultra premium trim level that's several steps above Platinum.

The more mundane sedans and CUVs can retain their pile of letters and numbers.
