The key design itself is really good. It's the fact that the soft plastic that once coated the back of my key fob peeled away and now it's hard plastic and a shred of the soft stuff left. You can see what's left of the soft stuff to the left of the Cadillac logo in my two pics.

EDIT: This is what I'm talking about:

I wonder what the batter life is on the BMW key fob. If it is something that has to be charged daily or weekly then it just became a nuisance for me (if I had one).

and U should be.. I'm sorry bro.. but I have to ask.. what the hell do U be doing that fob? putting it in a your steel wool lined pockets or something. Not to mention its filthy. I've had my Impala fob since July '13 , my Yukon fob since July '14, the V fob since March '16, and the Z since April last year.. and they don't look anything like this. I will also add that at my two Cadillac dealerships I bet good money if I showed them this they'd have me a replacement within a few hours. Take it to your dealer and ask.

Bottom line is the Cadillac dealer that kicked off this attack is in bad taste... not to mention that while certainly not $900.. GM key fobs can cost up to $300. Personally I think the BMW approach is overkill. Its definitely nice to have the access to your car like this, but I think the GM way is more sensible and I HOPE.. they don't change this. I mean I have my phone with me everywhere I go already.. I see zero reason to now have a Key Fob the size of a phone to carry too. SO to Cadillac, give us the same access, but leave it in the APP, not the fob. I mean JEEEEZUS!!! God forbid U have little hands

A client of mine has an i8. He told me it normally takes about 30 mins to charge and U can do it in the wireless charging port in the console or use a micro USB cable. Keep in mind its not a necessity to use this display key as there is a normal key fob that comes as standard

Also.. Cadillac is probably changing their key fob design as well starting with the Escalade. I think we may have seen the fob as a leaked partner to the Corvette C8.. and a possible Cadillac variant:

Nope, they just sit in my jeans/shorts/joggers. Of course it's dirty. It's exposed hard black plastic rubbing against everything.

It's a nice fob, it's just not very well made. Too bad.

So get a new one, they're like 60 bucks on Ebay... not 600 bucks.
I have one that's a little scuffed, the other one's mint. Wife's car, so I use the scuffed one.

They also make cases for them.

What happened to the left select button on the right side of the steering wheel? Is that just a bad reflection?

My key fob was doing the same thing. I solved the problem by trading in the fob, and the vehicle that went with it, for a new car.

A lot better than Cadillac's old fobs, like the one with my old '11 CTS coupe. Looks like the same as your Corvette. Really cheap plastic. It was really easy to break it when you replaced the battery. The one with my '19 ATS seems pretty nice. I'll see if it peels like yours.
Drives a 2019 Cadillac ATS Coupe and a 1988 Pontiac Trans Am GTA.

In the past, I've had a 5th gen Camaro, a CTS sedan and coupe, two 3rd gen Firebird Formulas, a convertible 4th gen Trans Am, a Reatta, a couple of Monte Carlos, an Avenger coupe, a couple of Cavalier hatchbacks, a Saturn SC1, and a Cherokee.

Why does my '13 ATS with 90k miles look like new, both key fob and interior and Envoy, your steering wheel looks worse than your key fob.

    Money isn't the issue.

It's a $61,000 car. I expect something better quality for that price.

    Yeah it's just the reflection.

My lease is up in November. It's still a bit early to trade it in.

The wheel is fine. It was really bright outside and the the iPhone XS Max camera tends to make things look a lot worse than they are.

You talk like this is just a Cadillac thing. I've had other luxury cars and the fobs didn't stay pristine, either.
If you don't it to get scuffed, armor it like you would a phone.

I've already bought armor for mine.

Should be leather or something nicer, befitting the price point. I think Volvo's are leather with a Walnut wood upgrade available (OEM).

My Soul fob is housed in a wild hickory nut shell. Quite a nice touch, and very rugged.
