Buick Regal Sportback/TourX Build & Price on Buick's site

Predictably, everything is optional even on top-level trim, so a fully loaded Essence model (leather) is over 40k and a fully loaded Preferred (cloth) model is $38,280. Ridiculous.

They obviously don't want people buying the lower end or base models and then things get pricey(IMO).

Best value here is the base model TourX, 30K with AWD...cheaper than AWD sedan...IMO.

But Stop/Start without defeat switch means no sale to me. I’d like a Sportback in dark blue otherwise.

No V6 for the wagon, it should have a Turbo V6

The base TourX loses a lot of features though compared to the cheapest trim for the Sportback (Preferred II) including:
    • Dual Zone automatic climate control
    • SiriusXM satellite radio
    • Color multi-function driver information display
    • Apple Carplay and Android Auto capability
    • Interior ambient lighting
    • Auto dimming inside rearview mirror
    • Remote vehicle start
    • Power driver's seat including lumbar support
    • Height adjustment for front passenger seat
    • Leather wrapped, heated steering wheel

Does get quite pricey => $44k for how I'd want it (just about all options excluding sunroof). Surprisingly very limited color choices even for the GS.

As the size of the car doesn't matter to me, for that money I'll stick with my ATS.

I assume they will make an Avenier package, I'd be interested in seeing that, though I assume it will push $50k, which I definitely don't like that price. In other words, Buick is hitting price resistance with me. Possibly, part of it is that I am not in love with the styling, looks ok, but looks "typical fwd". The last gen Regal looked really unique to me, which I liked. I'll have to see this in the flesh to see what I really think.

The Sportback makes the sedan pretty practical...hmmm...maybe I'll have to change my mind...but still wish they offered AWD on lower trim sedans.

If it didn't have Stop/Start I could go for a base Sportback...lightest and thus fastest...good alternative to Malibu...except for excellent MPG of Malibu Hybrid. I'm not into the "features"...heck I drive a base Sonic!

I understand the reasoning behind no other color options for the GS interior: this is going to be a low volume trim and the seats are unique to this trim.

Why can't we at least get the exterior of the car in the colors of the lower trims? Red, white, silver, dark grey, or black? No blues?

Re: Buick Regal Sportback/TourX Build & Price on Buick's site

Is the issue for Buick compounded but the quite different inventory policies between USA and Europe where the cars are built?

Most Opel/Vauxhall Insignia's will be built for dealer inventory, at much lower levels than USA, with few options - but give customers wanting specific option choices the chance of factory order with a few weeks lead time.

Nevertheless, it must be Buick USA who make the detailed specification for Opel to build and maybe they got it wrong - it happens - when Ford introduced the current Mustang in Europe they expected most sales to be the 2.3 Ecoboost but most Europeans wanted the V8 - so the initial batches were adjusted as far as possible but with full adjustment only available in the 2nd model year.

Given that PSA now owns Opel, and there won't be any further Insignia models, it would make sense foe GM to get the Regal built in the USA, even if it's alongside the Malibu.

For GM Canada pricing options they start with FWD base as $31.8K CDN+freight and taxes = on the road $38K CDN as cloth seat and stripped down trim. Good luck selling that...

GM's bean counters do not care one bit about the customer. It's all about what is cheapest and easiest for them to build. Not only do you have nearly no color options on base models, silver or black paint is $395 extra. And for a 30k car, not even a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Even basic modern safety features like blind spot detection are optional on the top-level trim. At least there are some very nice colors available from Opel. Otherwise, GM has the blandest and cheapest (no depth, sparkle) selection of colors in the industry and charges up the a** for them.

It'll all change soon enough - it's now clear that PSA now want to end production of Insignia in a couple of years time to eliminate the cost burden of using GM technology and paying licence fees - probably brought forward to the mid-life facelift for 2020 instead at the full model change.

Opel Russelsheim won't need any of the current tooling so it can be shipped back to the USA to allow Buick to build Regal and the Commodore for Holden.
