Anyone own a current generation Turbo Regal?

Greetings, was thinking about trading my DD (11 Cruze) in for possibly a new Regal sometime this fall. Nothing at all wrong with my Cruze....however there are some really good deals on the Regals and they are great looking cars. I drove a leftover 15 GS that is on a lot and liked it, however even with these discounts i don't want to pay that much for a DD. Have seen some decent equipped Turbo Regals advertised for 23k or 7k off of MSRP. Even though i get GM employee pricing that seems better than what i would get with my normal GM discount.

Was hoping Regal owners could chime in with what they like or dislike about their cars.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Anyone own a current generation Turbo Regal?

I have have had a '13 Turbo and I have '15 Turbo. Regardless of the value, it is a competent vehicle. Its a bit hefty but for what it is, still returns decent FE. It has more than adequate power for a DD, providing but off the line power and decent 30-50 and 50-70 power. It has a tight feel to it (for a 3700 lbs sedan) even without the GS upgrades. The trunk is surprisingly spacious fitting the (folded) cage for my 70 lb lab (think footprint, not volume). The backseat is tight but I am married with no kids and I haven't made backseat comfort a priority.

Now, to the value. My lease is 240 with the tax, title and fmp up front. I couldn't find any sedan in this class with half the features for that price. Intellilink is great, integrating with my phone well and the dash is ergonomic. The 2015's have Digital FM Radio but do no have the WIFI so just be aware. I do feel the regal is one of those vehicles where you can continually find new features you weren't aware of (most recently for me was holding the steering wheel voice button to trigger Google Now). When my lease is over in March, I will be getting a 2017 and continue of my trend.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I have a '12 GS and I really enjoy it, at least for a FWD family sedan - though I am trying to swap it for a '16 SS, but that or a Vsport would be the few options I'd consider worth upgrading to. It handles and brakes very well, power is a bit above average, and still looks pretty sharp particularly for a Buick. Actually still gets a random compliment once in a while.

Value wise I think you are wise to go with the Turbo, as since '14 there really is no power difference, so the only thing you miss is the front brembos and the 3-way adjustable (not magna ride) suspension. And I guess now the kinda cool LCD dash (my year did not have that).

They also got the 20% off deal GM was running back in early July when I put the deposit on my SS. They do not sell well so dealers really bargain on them. Really kind of a hidden gem of GM.

Only major knock going from a Cruz you'll find is gas mileage isn't great. Supposedly the newer LTG 2.0T is a bit more efficient than my older LHU; I average 23mpg in 50/50 and will get about 31 on a long highway trip.

Re: Anyone own a current generation Turbo Regal?

Hasn't been many bad owner experiences shared here, I believe a few people had issues with some of the early (German built) units.

And as Rod stated, there seems to be value in a well planned purchase or lease. Mid $200's for a lease, or low $20K's for a purchase both seems like attractive options.

FWIW, I test drove the new Honda Civic EX-T last week, wanted to see what it was all about, seems like an almost perfect replacement for our "3rd Car/Volt replacement" but all-in it was $310/month, that is without any negotiations, not sure where that would get me, but I can't imagine gaining that much ground, purchase (all-in) would be about $23,000 as well.

Keep us updated, and Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for the responses. I am just sort of thinking about this now so no rush.....end of this year or early next year would be a great time to buy if the right car is avail.

Since FE was mentioned, honestly i might actually get better FE in the vette than the Cruze, don't ask why i suppose its because im always gassing the Cruze where the other car doesn't need much motivation.

Will definitely post pics if and when i decide to do this. Other car i might have considered would be the Impala Midnight edition, just think that car looks really tough, though i don't need something that big. I had an Impala loaner recently and enjoyed the V6 power versus the Cruze however its HUGE! I would love an SS but trying to be practical here as well. I think for low-to-mid 20's the Regal is just hard to pass up.

We've got a 2011 German-built turbo Regal we bought new (wife's car). 104k miles and no major issues (other than the heated seats quit working). Rodd's summary above was pretty good. I don't have much to add.

So i pulled the trigger unexpectedly last saturday, got a very good deal on a 16 Regal. I love the the way the car looks, drives, and the power is great for a 4 cylinder turbo. Its much nicer than the Cruze and compliments the other car very nicely. Here are a couple of pictures.

Thanks. I could have gotten white or silver instead, similar options and price. I went with black because (when clean) it looks really good and i remember fantasizing over those old GN's in all black when i was a kid.

I am late to chime in...congrats.

Mine was very last Opel built units 04/11, (see my garage when it was brand spanking new)...all things considered, great buy. Old LHU 2.0T is thirsty in the city but Toronto has gridlock pretty much all day now.

I had a few minor issues (mostly in first 2 years), but "knock on wood" so far so good. I will stick with this one until next generation in couple of years.
