It means I'll never get the new Trans Am I want. It also means I'm going to try to scrape enough to get a G8 GXP together.

For me it means I will FINALLY give up on seeing a resurrection of the Firebird and TransAm. I think it is a HUGE mistake for GM to give up what once was, and what could have once again been, an exciting sporty performance division. I feel that Rick Wagoner bears a great deal of responsibility for GM's current sad state, including the tragic and at one time unthinkable demise of Pontiac. But he can stay busy the balance of his life counting and spending his many tens of millions of dollars.

I remember getting down to the local dealership with my dad as soon as the new models came out- had to have that new Pontiac book! I still have several in my collection.
They mean a lot more to me now.
It means several things: the Auto Shows have gotten a bit more boring, the dealerships have become even more of the same, that arrowhead logo is going to look like a long lost friend. Seeing the GM logo on newer cars will evoke a sense of betrayal and hurt. Folks who hold on to their classic (and future classic) Pontiacs will be part of an extended family.

Very similar experience here. For me, the memory of riding in my dad's 71 LeMans kept me going, kept me hoping.

marinerbc, you can use this as your avatar if you want, or steal mine (one of the nicest Fords currently in production). Your current blue oval is a bit bland.

(I'll let you resize it, or could do it for you in about 2.4 seconds if you want)

    No, I cannot.

I can sort of make out the squiggly lines you typed into the computer.

How does eliminating Pontiac save any money?
The dealerships are for the most part consolidated.
The model line is relatively fresh.

How does this save GM money?

To me, it means I'll no longer have the chance to buy a GM vehicle with some BALLS (other than the Camaro....or Corvette, if I strike it rich).

Actually did consider a G8 during my prelim. search.......but didn't actually go look, as the monthly payments would've buried me
When you turn your car on....does it return the favor?

I think that's actually his point: someone "up there" is actively working to destroy GM, for some reason (haven't kept up with the details).

So Buickman would probably agree with you that eliminating Pontiac doesn't save any money, and he'd say that it's done on purpose... Correct me if I'm wrong...

I'm sad to see Pontiac go, but given that I recently increased my stake in Ford several times over, I'm kinda glad I counted at least 20 GMIers who swore they were going to Ford. Good business.

Someone's going to have to replace all those Pontiac sales that aren't going to Chevy, and most of these aren't likely to be going to the Japanese.

(Don't hate me, I'm just observing facts. Hate GM instead.)

What it means to me? It means I'm picking up my G8 GT on Wednesday. Methinks I shouldn't wait for the 2010 model.

    Cheers.

No, wait a year and get it for 60% off--assuming the resale value is nearly as bad as the V6's:

The predicted resale value of the current Pontiac lineup after the first year is listed below. A 2009 Toyota Camry resale value for the same time period is 60%.

    * 2009 Pontiac G8: 40% (base sedan)
