What are the chances Pontiac comes back one day?

When Oldsmobile closed-up shop for good, I was sad to see the Aurora go away. That would have made the ultimate Park Avenue at the time. Now with Pontiac gone, I'm sad to see the G8 go away.. IT could be a great Buick flagship.

I doubt we'll ever see an Oldsmobile again. But I get this feeling that Pontiac isn't gone forever.. What do you think?

Pontiac has about as much of a chance of coming back as Oldsmobile dose.

These days anything is possible, and Pontiac returning would not surprise me at all. It makes too much sense.

I really don't think we'll ever see Pontiac again. If it does come back, it really needs to focus on sports cars and probably should be low volume.

I agree.....GM should have a sporty performance division characterized by bold futuristic, sleekly aggressive styling. A 21st century Firebird could be SO COOL!

About as likely as a Led Zeppelin reunion tour...

About as likely as Kevin Costner's career makes a comeback...

About as likely as Dennis Kucinich becoming president...

I'm about 70-75% sure that the brand is gone forever, so I selected that.

While Government is still involved with GM.... 0% chance of coming back.

I don't want to think it's gone forever, so I didn't vote. I really wish it would come back, and olds too for that matter.

I disagree that if it does come back it should only focus on sports cars. That's not what Poncho was about. There's only been two of those in their history anyway. Their real purpose starting in '55-'57 was performance and swagger regardless of car type. They made performance avaliable on everything from compact to fullsize. Even their Minivans had an edge about them.

The thing is - if they came back, they'd need to go one way or another (I think). They can't be Chevy and they can't be Buick. I "think" they should be the "excitement" division - and offer cars that are fun to drive. The Solstice, a Fiero, a Firebird.. That type of thing.. Though the Firebird would have to be very different from the Camaro...

It just can't be - period.

As Ewanick indicated, GM now has four core brands to invest in development and promotion. That's more than enough for a company that's far from out of the woods.

I wouldn't imagine there'd ever be a return until long after GM is out of the woods...

Even if the company improbably returned to its heyday, I can't imagine reinstating the brand or reviving a model under a different moniker.

There is a staggering amount of energy that goes into managing one brand, let alone four. Stretching itself too thin almost killed GM and some still maintain that they're juggling too many balls.

Maybe in 40 or 50 years it could come back as a small line classic revival sort of like what BMW did with Mini.
