Question Something's doesn't make sense here....

There's one thing that's been bothering me lately. Why would GM keep buick or even GMC for that matter and kill off Pontiac? What's Buick known for? Besides the obivious techinical problems associated with Buicks? I have never heard of anyone ever bragging about their Buicks(or even talking about them for that reason). GMC's are just Chevy's with chrome grills, so why keep them? GM already recovered from their early-bird-opps-a-daisy, so why keep Pontiac dead? Especially in an economy with unemployment sky-rocketing. It's kind of funny though, in a Pontiac forum, why has no one started a topic about Pontiacs revival?
P.S. Chevy runs deep, in scrap yards.

Please, allow me to translate for my fellow GMI'ers:

First: Why come in here and start bashing GM with no further obvious point?

Second: You don't seem to know much about these brands, which obvious from the fact that you're simply asking these questions (and stating some very questionable thoughts you have about them).

Third: Buick is VERY popular in China. As GM moves to consolidate its brands, Buick has a much stronger presence on the global market than Pontiac, which is not even noticed outside of Canada and the US. Buick currently sells more vehicles in China than they do in the US. And Buick is in a better position than Pontiac ever was to fill the gap between Cadillac and Chevrolet since Buick is farther upscale than Pontiac, keeping it away from competing with Chevy.

Fourth: This question has been covered in many threads on this site and had you looked, you would have seen this answer elsewhere.

What technical problems would a Buick have that their related cars in other GM brands don't...?

I'll be a bit more diplomatic:

I understand where your thoughts are coming from. It's very easy to think with that narrow-sighted mentality (that you're unaware of; you're right, everyone else is wrong/how could they not have thought about this!??). However, one needs to look at everything else involved in creating a brand - a brand which solely exists to make money for its shareholders. This is where critical thinking and an open mind are necessary -- and knee-jerk emotions do not have a place.

    I'll be nice too:

I thought the same thing when they did it, but then I saw their business plan; Buick lines up nicely with the Japanese luxury marques and in my opinion dusts them on looks. I would buy a Buick today if I had the cash. The Regal is a fantastic car. Pontiac, on the other hand lines up nicely with... Scion, Kia, and that's about it. It's a much smaller chunk of the market, and not one that can really be useful to GM in any way shape or form. GMC, on the other hand, has a steady market share, particularly in a commercial segment. Pontiac and Saturn were more expendable than the others, so they went.
