Post Saturn's June Sales Results: Ups & Downs

The good news is that the Vue's sales were 100% for the month. Here's more...

"Saturn retail sales rose 9% in June, thanks in part to a special zero-percent financing sale that the brand offered during the last week of the month. However, overall sales for the month of June were down 12.8% compared to last year due to the sales gap created by the discontinued Ion sedan and quad coupe. In alphabetical order, here's a look at how each model performed:

Retailers sold 888 all-new Saturn Astra hatchbacks.
Aura retail sales up 45% with overall sales increasing 41% to a total of 5,897 units. Year-to-date (YTD) sales of the Aura are up 21% to 32,938.
A total of 38 Saturn Ions were sold, down 99.2% from when 4,779 copies of the compact car were sold in June of '07 and plenty of stock was still readily available. The Ion went out of production in March of 2007.
Outlook sales totaled 1,625 units, down 58% from the same period last year when 3,869 were sold. The Outlook's corporate cousins, the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave, also saw their June sales fall 40.1% and 18.4%, respectively.
Sales of the discontinued Relay minivan, production of which ended in December of 2006, fell nearly 90% to 15 units.
Retailers sold a total of 1,581 Sky roadsters, which represents a 66% increase over the same period last year. Overall sales in June for the Sky were up 62.1%.
Vue retail sales skyrocketed up 100% to 8,868 units. Overall sales for the month increased 40%. YTD sales are just about even with last year's volume; nearly 46,000 Vues have been sold since January.

Re: Saturn's June Sales Results: Ups & Downs

Saturn has been advertising the VUE heavily here on Long Island. I imagine they are pushing it across the country as well?

I wonder if GM would have kept production of the ION going if they knew gas prices would end up where they are? Seems like a mistake to can them.

My first thought was: "What? Saturn sells the Vauxhall Astra triple-eight? A 200hp diesel?"

Wow a 100% rise in Vue sales, but I thought everyone said it got poor fuel economy for it's size. Good for Saturn but what gives?

Fleet sales. It's obvious GM's sales numbers were propped up by 0% financing and heavy fleet sales.

Are you sure? I thought GM was getting away from fleet sales.

Thumbs up Re: Saturn's June Sales Results: Ups & Downs

This article clearly states that the Vue sales were "Retail," not fleet. Now, it may not be correct, but it clearly uses the word "Retail" when stating the 100% increase for the month on the Vue.

Heck the Vue and Ion is what carried Saturn before. I'm not suprised that the Vue is the main vehicle for any Saturn dealer right now.

It's obvious? How so? Where are you getting this information from? Do you have a link or quote?

The article quoted in the first post states:

"Saturn retail sales rose 9% in June.... However, overall sales for the month of June were down 12.8% compared to last year...."

If retail sales were up and overall sales were down, then the inescapable conclusion is that Saturn's fleet sales are in a free fall. They are hardly propping up Saturn.

Thats impressive, since car's especially suv's aren't selling well now.

I wish you would keep logic out of this discussion. I listened to the sales call on Tuesday and LaNeve mentioned fleet sales were down 26K total for GM in June. Retail sales were only down slightly overall yr/yr.

Put some G.D. incentives on the Astra!! Not to mention GM needs to advertise the Astra!

I'll keep logic out of the discussion as soon as you keep the facts out!
