    Saturn Ion

I am thinking the ION might be the best vehicle to purchase for your child. At the current time the recall has many Ions sitting while Gm dealers are waiting for the parts. Once these owners get the recall done they will give up the nice rental and get their ION back which now will have brakes that pulsate from sitting while waiting for the recall parts. So I think there will be many b=nice recall fixed ions available for sale dirt cheap

Used car dealer's are begging for cars in the price range of the Ion's on recall. They will bring top dollar in good shape.

Mine will never be for sale. 9400 miles on a Redline? You'll never ever ever find another one.

That's roughly 2 miles a day, darn you're going to wear that poor thing out.

    Re: Saturn Ion

I think that's true, godsthere. Once the ignition switch and upcoming power steering recall are done on my 05, I don't expect any problems that don't come from wear and tear. Never had a problem with the power steering [went out briefly twice while backing up, restarted it and never had it again], but have been fighting the ignition switch and Passlock garbage since the 1st or second year of ownership, now going on ten years.

Thankfully all of the repairs have been under warranty except for the last ignition switch repair [which was refunded but only lasted a little over a year and 3000 miles], so I have had no real out of pocket work done on it for the entire time and miles [60,000 currently] it's been in my driveway.

The 2.2 ECOTEC and GM automatic will last for many miles to come. I think it would be an inexpensive 2nd car or 1st car for someone after the recalls have been done. The reputation of it and the Cobalt will be forever trashed so the prices should remain attractive on the used car market.

I have 190k mi on my '07 Ion 2.4L. Supposedly still worth $4k in great shape (mine is). Never experienced any of the recall issues. Only repair outside of normal was a timing chain, cam solenoids, and trans cooler line leak at 182k. Otherwise everything is just normal wear (brakes, suspension) and tires.

There is about 400,000 Saturn ION's on the road, how many do you think are parked? (I believe most people are still driving them)

Of the ones that are parked, how many do you think will be up for sale once repaired? (vs. put up for sale now or just put back into use)

A 10 year old Saturn ION is worth about $4,000 how much do you think the influx of used Saturn ION's is going to drop the price? (I can't imagine there would be any price impact, that hasn't already happened, but lets say its 10%)

    Happy ION Shopping,

    Re: Saturn Ion

Bought an '04 Ion new from the dealership to replace a '96 SL-1. Finally traded it in 110,000 miles later in 2012 for a Buick. Got 4k for it. That ION never, ever gave me a lick of trouble in all those years... Oil changes and one set of tires. That's it.

Mahermusic: with the exception of the ignition switch I haven't replaced anything but tires and the battery [after nearly nine years]. Not even the brakes and my 86 Olds Calais and 99 Cavalier needed them every 20,000 miles. Turning out to be a good reliable vehicle.
