PROS and CONS of the Aura...

Alright, well, now I've seen in person, cleaned, sat in, and driven on the road (not on the freeway though unfortunately...) I'm putting together a list of PROS and CONS of the Aura. If you'd driven or sat in the Aura too, please feel free to add to this list.

    PROS:
-Powertrain is silky smooth, torquey, and sounds a nice sound (sounds better than the 3.6 in the CTS!!)
-Sound system is a pretty decent one, obviously not the worlds best, but it's clear and has good base
-Ride is smooth but not floaty. Soaks up bumps big and small without a problem, even with the 18" wheels on the XR and yet feels like it can take corners as well as or better than most in its class
-Little details such as the gauge cluster that, when turned on, will slowly intensify its lighting, among soooo many other little details
-Seats are comfortable, and the brown is just.. WOW!
    -Power adjustable pedals
    -Interior lighting
    -Paddle shifters
-The way it looks IN PERSON

    CONS:
-Little details such as no "Oh ********************!" bar
-Why is there NO REAR ARMREST IN A NEAR $30K CAR?!?!
-Rear head room (even someone shorter than 6' has to sit at an odd angle to keep from bumping their head - may be a side effect of pan. sunroof-equipped Aura's)
    -No nav option
-Paddle-shifters aren't very quick as shifting... not horrible, but still not as quick as it can and should be. Minor ECU tuning and grounding kit should easily change this if you want to spend a few hundred bucks
-With all the goodies, I'm curious as to why Saturn didn't want to jump ahead of the competition with optional HID's (projector or not), and optional cooled seats and heated washer fluid among other various options you can find on a $30K TSX or Buick but not this $27K Aura XR
    -Headrests that don't tilt
-Tilt but does not tellescope, WTF?
-Grain quality in wood could be better (almost appears pixilated in person)
-The way it looks IN PICTURES

Now, yes, there is a long list of CONS, however, if you notice, the majority, with the exclusion of the nav and head room are more minor nip picks and "I wish"es than something that is major.

Overall, I think this car is EASILY a car that is as good as the Camcord. Now, I just am curious to see if MT, C/D, and others will like it as much as they should.

No nav? You can get a Camry or Accord and for 2007 a Fusion with Nav!

Yes the 9-3 telescopes and tilts..but all manual. GM needs to get electronic tilt and telescoping steering wheels across the board. Geez.

The Aura's steering wheel DOES tilt and telescope, albeit manually. I think that's acceptable for the class. Now the Lucerne is another story!

While at the nav too, they should intergrate the driver's preferences, and trip computer capabilities onto the nav user interface.

There's no memory seating either, great if you need to change drivers frequently.

I'm sore that they use the same parts bin steering wheel also on the C6. That steering wheel might look fine for the Aura, but is too cheap (the vinyl hub, and cheap feeling leather) for the C6.

Have any of you tried Turn by Turn Navigation?or have Nav in your current car?

Turn by turn is an extra $100 per year not a $2200 option.

Far less bling but much more user friendly to 90% of buyers.

Also the radio screen does display road names and distances

That's not the point. The point is, the Aura NEEDS to have nav as an option. Not offering it makes people thing it must be low-tech because much of the competition has it. Mazda6, Camcord, Fusion, etc. And since nav is such a big thing these days, that hurts.

As for telescoping steering wheel, I couldn't find the control for that. It isn't the same lever that also adjusts the tilting, is it?

It is the exact same lever used for tilting the steering wheel. I tried it yesterday when I was in an XE. I was a lil' shocked myself that it had this option as it was not one that I thought GM would have included in the Aura. As for the Nav system goes I feel the only ones that I feel are justifiable, are the ones that allow you play DVDs in addition to having a nav system. Not all of the OEM nav systems I've seen have this capability.

Ooooh k. Gotchya. I thought it was a different lever and that's the only one I found...

Also, while I'd agree about the DVD, many people just want navigation, and feel if a car doesn't offer nav than it's not up-to-par with everyone else in respect to technology. And for that reason, they NEED to add that option. Not to mention, why WOULDN'T they wanna make some good $$ on a package that includes memory, heated/cooled leather seats, nav, and premium sound system (they, the package would SELL!)

THE AURA OFFERS A NAVIGATION SYSTEM, JUST NOT A NAVIGATION SCREEN. The only con I have for the Aura is how it doesn't look the greatest in pictures.
