    Proposition for Pontiac

Pontiac. In GM's viability plan, it is to be reduced to a niche brand with few models. In the U.S., Pontiac is a smaller brand. In Mexico and Canada, some Pontiac cars outsell Chevy's. ( G3 Wave>Aveo) Pontiac does good with the Chevy rebadges. In fact, I belive that the G3 Wave was the best-selling car for a few months, our Canadian friends may be able to clarify. So-
Why not sell Chevy's rebadged as Pontiac's in Canada and Mexico, as well as U.S. Pontiac's? Why not give Pontiac a rebadged Malibu as the G6, Cruze as a G5, Aveo as a G3, Spark as a G1, Equinox as a Torrent? It could work.
    And for the U.S.-
    G8
Complete line. Rebadged Commodore, Commodore Sport Wagon, and ST.
    Solstice-
    Coupe and Convertible.

All Pontiac needs in U.S. Give those to Canada also.

    Re: Proposition for Pontiac

There is no purpose in giving Pontiac rebadged Chevys. That just adds to the problem of too many brands. Pontiac needs to offer a line of cars that are not available from any other USA GM dealership.
G8-the only affordable RWD sedan and not a N/A rebadge
Solstice-the only RWD affordable sports car after Sky goes away
G6-use the next RWD Holden small sedan platform
G8 coupe-the only RWD affordable full size coupe
G5-use Astra after Saturn goes away
G8 ST- the only El Camino type product on the market

This will make Pontiac unique and still be a niche player
Give Mexico and Canada all the rebadged Chevys they can sell.

Just my opinion but Pontiac needs to sell models that are only available from Pontiac if they are to survive.

Thanks, but we don't want Chevy rebadges here in Canada either. The G3 and G5 have both been weak sellers and should only be sold as Chevies.

Don't sell any more re-badged Chevy's. The only re-badged Chevy should be a Firebird /Trans-Am based on the Camaro. The Pontiac Motor Division, based on its' current set-up should have a Vibe, a G8, a Solstice, and a G6 that should get an interior update. Maybe give the G8 and G6 a traditional name like Bonneville and LeMans respectively. Forget the re-badges, and don't give Chevy an Impala based on the G8.

    Re: Proposition for Pontiac

We will have to see how things play out, but that may very well happen. Canadians have always bought lots of Pontiacs, so since the 60s we have gotten a lot of rebadged Chevys to fill the lineup at dealers.

The Pontiac Acadian was a Chevy Nova in the 60s... Pontiac Beaumont was a rebadged Chevelle... even into the 80s and 90s we got a Pontiac version of the Corsica, the Pontiac Tempest .

We also had both the G5 (originally the Pursuit) and the G3 (Wave) way before GM ever decided to sell them in the US.

The sales numbers disagree. We do want rebadged Chevys here and have for about 50 years. They have not been weak sellers at Pontiac/Buick/GMC dealers, which out number Chevy dealers IIRC. I don't think the Wave ever topped the sales charts, however.

Pontiac needs the next G6 to be a rebadged Saab Turbo X (or 9-3 XWD)

    Re: Proposition for Pontiac

The term "Rebadged" has been bantered around so much, it makes it sound as though it's the EXACT same vehicle but with the letters "PONTIAC" overwriting "CHEVROLET." My experience has indicated otherwise.

Pontiacs have the distinction of featuring a red illuminated instrument cluster. No Chevrolet comes with this. This goes beyond a rebadge in my books. I like the red gauge cluster. I find it soothing and easier on the eyes than the alternatives. I tend to drive for extended periods of time after dark, so I am somewhat of an expert on this. I am also one of those people who turn down the "Brightness" of the instrument cluster when traveling long, deserted highways after dark. Hey, I have over 20 years and over a million miles of at-fault accident experience under my belt, so feel free to argue the importance of gauge cluster color.

In my Torrent, Pontiac also offered standard fog lights, stiffer suspension, and tubular roof racks; all winners in my book. To me, these are all hallmarks of Pontiac. Sorry, folks; what you call "Badge engineering" is what I call giving consumers a choice. Since when was choice a bad thing?

Since that additional choice was offered as a different brand requiring a different dealer network and back-end business functions. If the additional choice(s) were offered as trim packages on the existing car then it's less of a burden.

While the brand/dealer proliferation were good for consumers (cross-shop between brands and dealers to negotiate better deals on essentially similar vehicles) it was bad for GM.

Wow, they already stopped production? That's crazy. Well, I'm on the 2-door G8 bandwagon!
