OK. Spill it. My compnay blocks YouTube.
I'm assuming Solstice wins this comparo.
TOo bad Solstice isn't RHD capable.

Yeah, I saw that on "the other" site, hard to watch what is going on and read the text at the same time. Worth viewing though!!

Sweet. Ahh, turning with torque, gotta like that. I can relate.

Do you hear that GM? They want this car sold in Japan.

Both those guys seemed cool. And could tell they were upset when the Mazda lost. Sweet!

I was hoping to drive a Solstice at 'The Drive' when I was in Vegas, but it was rained out. Oh well, I got my fix in Corvettes at Spring Mountain.

Haha, the other site, good one. I wonder who gets more views. Proly us, but yea the solstice wins and they were wondering why GM doesen't sell it in japan. They are actually going to write an article telling GM to sell it there because they definitely will find buyers in japan. Making it available in RHD woudn't hurt either.

Their utter shock in the fact that the Solstice didn't totally suck (as they both predicted and were pleasantly surprised was not the case) was a bit flattering at the beginning, but then it became pretty irritating. Americans, when pressed, can build a great little car! Get over it!

Geeze, it's scarey that Detroit apparently has a very long way to go before they can convince many overseas consumers to consider their wares. And people think it's the import tariffs that doom American-branded cars?! I think it's the prevailing superiority complex of local consumers in their own local manufacturers that weighs more heavily on trying to sell Detroit iron overseas.

They need to get a differnt tranny in the Soltice. Is'nt it the Colarado tranny? The Miata has a lot of body roll. Imagine if they had driven the GXP!

Actually, I was amazed at the amount of body roll form a BMW M3. I was at an autocross and a guy had one. He was running slicks, and had an aftermarket exhaust, but he had awesome lap times. I've seen pictures of me running my Z28, and the body roll wasn't as severe. My times were just a few seconds off him, and I was completely stock.

The M3 seemed to "dive" into the corners. But he had good times.

With how well the Solsitce is doing in SCCA autocross competitions, I'm not surprised it performed well there. It seems like their only main complaint was the gearing didn't match the engines power band as well as the MX-5's did.

But he did mention that where the Solstice stayed in 3rd, the Miata was in 4th. That means you are downshifting more in the Miata, which means more opportunities to make mistakes.

GM should sell it worldwide. Are they planning to sell the Sky/Opel GT there?

Re: Pontiac Solstice vs Mazda Mx-5, Japanese Style!

I was just about to post these videos and I saw this thread.

It's pretty obvious that the rest of the world still suffers from a perception problem (American cars are all muscle, poor handling and low on refinement). This seems to be a common theme in both, Europe and Japan.

A real shame Solstice won't make it Japan... at least in this iteration. It would ahve been great to have Kappa ambidextrous, but cost cutting stopped that.

In either case, GM has a proven halo car with the Kappa roadsters -- SOlstice, SKy, GT, and G2X.
