Looking Back: 2000 Saturn SC2 3dr Test Drive

With a back seat designed for merely occasional use, Saturn’s little coupe was not as practical as the SL sedan, but it was more fun. Redesigned in many ways for 2000, the latest version was quieter, smoother riding , and more comfortable than the previous one...

Almost bought one of those, but I couldn't fit comfortably...there just wasn't enough leg room and the steering wheel didn't telescope.

Crappiest commuter car GM ever made.
Stupid doors didn't ding or rust.
    Stainless steel exhaust never rusted.
Safety from the steel roll cage.
Independent rear suspension. Who wants that? Nobody.
Drove it for 5 years and it never went over 40 mpg combined. Or under.
Wouldn't buy Saturn again even if you paid me.

I read your first line and thought WTF...

...then I continued! A coworker had the SL1 of same vintage. He traded it in with over 200K almost trouble free miles. Didn't have his first brake job until around 100k!

I still see this vintage of Saturn fairly often.

The first generation hasn't hung around so much ... I feel like I see more mid 90s Luminas and Grand Prix's than first gen Saturns.
