Just picked up an '08 G8 GT...

We are hoping to be in a new house by this time next year, so we chose to downsize our garage by selling our 2012 Malibu LTZ (3.6) and my toy, a 2002 Camaro SS, which went to its new owner this past Saturday. My concession to the sale of my Camaro was that I was to get something sorta fun. Thus, a search for a G8 GT commenced. While I would have loved the GXP, it simply wasn't within my budget. After getting burned by two private sellers on craigslist that completely misrepresented their G8's (after I drove 4.5 hours!), I found this one an 1.5 hours away. 83k miles, one owner, meticulously maintained, stock except for a K&N filter $16,500. The interior is absolutely flawless; the exterior just has a small dent on the driver front fender with some paint damage that I am getting an estimate to repair on Wednesday. I might just slap touchup paint on it and call it a day since this car isn't going to get any cleaner since it'll be a four-season driver. I'd like to do some stuff like headers, intake, and tune, but that's all a dream until we get our new house

First "mod" was getting rid of the silly engine cover!

It's a nice car to drive around. It reminds me of a more grown up version of my GTO.... which, of course, makes sense! It's certainly not a replacement for my Camaro, but it'll do until I'm allowed play money again by my CPA... er... wife

Isn't the point of a new house to have more space to fit all your toys?

Congrats...very nice ride. Better than both of the cars your getting rid of, imo.

GOOD LUCK. We purchased our 09 G8 GT new and at 65K we love it as much as new. Keeping it til it wears out or falls apart. Invest in decent snow tires and you'll be AMAZED at how good it is in the snow. It's our preferred winter ride as well as our summer hot rod sedan. But a new Stingray joins it in the driveway TOMORROW.

Congrats on the G8! I've got 57k on my 2009.5 G8 GT, and it's been pretty trouble free. I'm trying to save $$ for a house, so I'll probably be driving it for five more years at least!

That's a beautiful car! I had to laugh at all the burnout marks on the pavement. ....... was that you "playing" with your new toy?

Nice find. Invest in fixing the fender properly.

Re: Just picked up an '08 G8 GT...

Thanks for the compliments. No, those burnouts aren't mine, unfortunately. That's a spot off a back road where I've found has nice scenery for pics -- and is a good test area for shenanigans as others obviously found. To be honest, I've only added one set of marks to the pile... and that was in my Camaro.

I miss the Camaro quite a bit as I put a lot of time and effort into it. Performance wise, it was only a bolt-on car, but I replaced all of the suspension and chassis parts except for the torque arm and k-member. I just got it to where I wanted it so that I could start working on making it faster. Alas, I simply do not have the funds to keep a toy around at the moment considering the large expenditure that we'll be taking on. Nonetheless, I hope to pick up another 4th gen (or something equivalent) after closing on the next house.

I forgot to mention that I am happy that it does not have the sunroof. I know that is blasphemy to some, but I never use them. I figure if it's just going to be closed all the time that I might as well not have it at all. That's one less thing to break and leak (not that I believe it'd actually do the latter). I do wish, however, that it had the Sport package as I really like the 19" wheels. I'm thinking I'll pick a used set up over the winter and slap them on in the spring with some good summer-only tires.

I also always thought that if I bought a G8 that I'd ditch the clear GT taillights for the red ones off the V6. Now that I have one, I'm thinking they're not too bad on the black (I would have preferred white). I just can't leave well enough alone...

CAI and axle backs. Do it. Now. Those two mods are worth their weight in gold. I picked up .2 tenths and 2 MPH in the 8th with them.

Re: Just picked up an '08 G8 GT...

This may be a silly question....

I recently sold my Audi. An 03 A4 1.8T Quattro (see picture below). Needless to say, I fixed it up with all kinds of great goodies in the 10 years I owned the car. The Audi has a huge forum/fan (Audizine.com) base which is where I was able to obtain a ridiculous amount of information regarding the car, problems, advice, DIYs, etc. Since selling it, I have been looking at the G8s and am becoming more interested by the day. But, I can't seem to find any "legitimate" forum site anywhere close to that of Audizine. I thought this was strange as I always thought that the G8 would have a decent forum site due to a loyal fan base and "performance" appeal. Especially when I know there are die-hard Camry forums and other cars that you wouldn't think would have such a following floating around out there.
