Got a New Car... (NOW WITH PICS!!!)

Well I haven't posted much here for a while mostly because I've been pretty busy, but anyways 2 days ago I got a silver 2004 Grand Prix GT. It has 88k miles but with the bulletproof 3800 it shouldn't be a problem. The previous owners took off some of the price to pay to replace a noisy power steering pump. I'll be glad when the new one gets broken in and doesn't have that faint whine anymore. Other than that it runs like a champ and drives nicely. I really enjoy the low end torque and nearly effortless acceleration. The only thing that bothers me with the car are the interior lights. There are no overhead maplights to turn on and none in the visors, but I can change it. I'm not gonna open up a can of worms and talk about the interior quality or the back seat cushions because it suits me fine. GM could have put cupholders in the back somewhere though. All in all though, I should really enjoy this car for the next few years to come, it really is nice. I'll try and post some pics when I finish getting the interior cleaned out thoroughly and get another coat of wax because the previous owners didn't seem to care too much about spilling food in the back carpet.

    Re: Got a New Car...

Can anyone tell me how long the new power steering pump takes the break-in and not make the whining? The mechanic said it should be about 2 weeks. During the middle of the day when the car is heated up the whining gets a lot worse, so I wanted to get a 2nd opinion so nothing gets messed up.

congrats CRboyd. Even though GM wasn't exactly known for stellar interior design back then the GP is a good choice especially with the nearly indestructible 3800

I'm sorry I've just been really busy because school started yesterday. I will get them taken ASAP tomorrow. Can't break that rule.

Yeah the interior on this isn't bad enough to bug me, it is pretty nice for what it is. And yeah I looked between these and Impalas and I just like the feel of this better. I think it looks much sleeker too, not to say an Impala would have been a bad choice. The GP just appealed to me more.

I hear yah. the Impala is a roomy car but i was never a big fan of the interior of it (too bland and boring for my tastes). The GP's interior despite it's flaws always seemed to be more exciting than it's Chevy sibling

Exciting man! Congrats! I rag on GM as much as the next guy, but I actually quite like the Grand Prix. GT's a nice choice. Enjoy your GM! We need more GM fans like you who actually drive GMs at GMi!

    Re: Got a New Car...

Pontiac did make cupholders for the backseat. It was removable and actually fit into the rear of the center console. I don't know what the part number is, but if you contact your local GM parts dept., they should be able to hook you up.
As far as the interior lights, sounds like you may have gotten a basic one without the lighting package. In 2004, all the Grand Prix models were GT. The difference was GT1, GT2 and GTP.
    Congratulations on your new ride.

How much would that cupholder thing cost would you know? And yeah I didn't notice the lights until I had already gotten it and it was dark. It looks like there should be but when u press it there isn't. At least I have alloy rims and no hubcaps.

Anyways I'm about to take the pics so stay tuned.

Ok I finally got some shots here:

    The front...

    Side view

The previous owners had moved from Alabama a few months prior to me getting the car, so for now I have an Alabama plate on the back.

    The (non-functioning) light fixture.

The gauge cluster, which is one of my favorite aspects of the car.

    The good ol' 3800 V6.
