Thumbs down Does Pontiac Have A Future????

It seems my favorite brand is going to get killed off. It seems that Pontiac is about to die just like Oldsmobile.

According to the news on Left Lane News, it seems the brand is going to be starved of product and eventually killed off. What is wrong with the people at GM??? Do they not realize that this is one of the bright spots in the lineup? I'm waiting for official confirmation of this but it looks like the end is near. I have no idea what it is I'm supposed to buy now. My plans to get a new G6 GT coupe are in limbo anyway but with the future of the brand up in the air like this, I can't help but wonder how many people are staying away until they know what will happen to Pontiac.

For heaven's sake GM/Pontiac: hurry up and clarify the status of the brand and the product lineup!!!

    N.

It's dead. At least that is what every indication seems to lead to.

GM won't make any announcement on it until next decade. They are not stupid, they don't want a repeat of Oldsmobile.

I love Pontiac as much as anyone. But it needs to go for GM to succeed.

Aside from the 2004-2006 GTO, there hasn't been a great Pontiac since the F-body. This is my opinion...I know a very valid argument could be made for the Solstice, and the G8. But the Sky looks way better than the Solstice, and the G8 as much as I want to love it, doesn't do it for me. I'd prefer a Charger over a G8.

Pontiacs of the '60's are my favorites. I don't want Pontiac to die, but I think nsap is right.

I love how at the LA show, the Pontiac speakers had to say "this proves that we'll be sticking around for years to come" when talking about the Solstice Coupe and G8 GXP releases.

    No,

Pontiac, Saturn, SAAB, Hummer are all Dead brands

ALL have been damaged to the point of no-return...

Buick only lives on because the Chinese USED to buy them

And we keep Cadillac in the hopes that a division with one car that sells could someday be just like Lexus.

Well, I guess if it's time for me to face reality, I'll just have to cross the G8 and Solstice off my list as possible buys this year. It really does suck that Pontiac will go away.

Re: Does Pontiac Have A Future????

There is another Thread "Internet Dealers" where a prospective customer is in negotiation for a new G8 GT and is fighting over $880. A BMW Dealer would show him the door! Pontiac is Dead, and the American Market killed it!

Pontiac could be saved if they come out with an awesome looking and performing Firebird, say one based on Voltec.

Why would you cross them off the list? Pontiac isn't going to "die" anytime soon unless the market stays like it is for 2-3 years. I suspect Pontiac's death will coming around 2014-2015.

If there's one thing that current history has shown us, it's that automakers suck at predicting the future.

My reason is that since I plan on keeping my cars over 10 years, once they close down, it'll be hard to find parts and stuff for maintenance and (god forbid) repairs. Either that, or it'll all be super expensive.

Uh no... Parts and service will never be an issue... lets keep in mind that ALL of Pontiac are reskinned something else's... and those something else's still exist... Shoot I can still get the odd part here and there for my 1987 Oldsmobile 442.

It will not be hard to find parts, service or maintenance.

I think the estimate of Pontiac death of 2014 is a VERY good guess. I would say that nails it (plus or minus a year)
