A local dealer has an '08 with 800 miles on it, the 2 door XR, for 13,700. I like the car, and it's a good price. But I'm concerned about warranty coverage and parts availability in the years to come. Please advise.

I have zero worries about parts/warranty. Mine has 20k+ miles on it and has been flawless.
Pull the trigger on that bad boy.![]()
Go for it, I've had zero issues with mine and not worried about warranty or parts availability issues.
What happens to the warranty when Saturn folds?
No worries. The Warranty is covered by GM and the parts will be available, it's a Delta car.

I suggest you test drive it first though, they're real dogs with the automatic.
I almost traded the Aura on on an Astra when gas was over $4 until I drove an auto and it was as slow as my old SL2.
My only concern would be engine parts, it comes with a Euro-spec Ecotec, not a NA Ecotec. The parts don't interchange.

The old DOHC were pretty peppy. My '92 SC felt faster than the Astra I drove. The Astra felt more like my 2002 SC1 with the SOHC.
Parts are federally mandated to be available for at least 10 years from what I've heard.
I found it to be a dog. Handles like it's on rails, but disappointing in the pep department. I don't know what th eother cars in it's class are like, but I know what it's predicessors are like and it was as bad or worse.

I would recommend taking it for a test drive as well.
I had the 2009 automatic out for about an hour one day and it was quite responsive. From a dead stop there if a bit of a lag but this is expected within this segment. Once the car gets going the acceleration is surprisingly peppy... while on the highway I looked down a couple of times to realize that I was well within ticketing territory.
Great styling and construction compared to the Cobalt. However, it would have been better served if it shared the same powerplant.
I don't know where everyone gets that "10 year mandated parts" crap. It's totally false.
You can't get all the parts for your five year old car still in production right now.
I'd get a price on the t-belt replacement on that Astra before I pulled that trigger.
