Unhappy 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GT - No Acceration Past 33% throttle.

I was driving up and I came up to a light and the guy next to me wanted to race. I put the gear selecter into 1st and proceeded to accelerate. I went easy at first due to the ground being slick and once reaching 20 mph. I then stepped on it then quickly switching to 2nd. However when I tried to do so the car did not go past 4000 rpm. I then tried another time and did the same thing as well. It doesn't matter if it's from a roll, dead stop, or cruising speed. It just did this all of a sudden and did not notice and settle signs or deteration. Has anyone else have this similiar problem and if so what was the fix?

My guess is that it was a blessing in disguise. Last time I checked drag racing on a public roadway is illegal, no?

Try leaving in 1st and keeping light throttle pressure does it go past 4k?

And you've now found someone with the exact same problem. ME! Just started noticing it a few weeks ago.

So when I punch it from a stop light (aka, racing) or punch it on the onramp to a highway, Once it gets to about 4k RPMs, it starts to sound pulse-like and #1, won't go any faster, and #2, won't down shift unless I let off on the gas a little.

I've noticed that I CAN in fact put the car in park (when stopped obviously) and rev the engine well past the 4k mark without any problems.

Knowing the power this car has, I've become accustomed to punching (the gas pedal) myself out of tight situations. However, last week, when I had someone stop short up in front of me, I went to jump ahead of the guy next to me and realized that, my car was not going up in speed at all, had to jack up on the brakes and THEN make the switch.

If anyone has a solution to this, I would really love to know what it is because this is becoming a little dangerous. I'd hate to start babying this thing down to below 4,000 RPMs. If I wanted that, I'd go buy a Sentra.

I'll keep posting more findings as I come across them.

I was thinking the same thing.

Perhaps have an exhaust shop do a flow test.

Can you rev all the way up and down without trouble in neutral?

I want to say that most GM cars have a rev limiter at 4000 RPM in park and neutral, to protect against neutral slams, no? It does that "pulse-like" thing as the injectors are cut off.

Re: 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GT - No Acceration Past 33% throttle.

I had the same problem. replaced the cat., fuel filter and did a valve job. No help. Then my mechanic disconnected lead to supercharger boost control and fixed problem, the car runs much better than ever did. I found out without boost control supercharger in on all the time. With boost control supercharger is only on when it is needed, full throttle. I don't know if this will hurt the engine in the long run. any help is much appreciated.
