    Manufacturer bias in the media???

We all have a bias when it comes to what we like and dislike, and I definitely have a preference for GM cars, Chevys in general. With that in mind, I can admire designs of other automotive manufacturers even though I may never buy from them due to my preference. When it comes to the media, it seems some journalists just flat out have a bias that is clearly evident in the headlines and reviews. Just today I saw a headline on a Motor Trend review, "Refreshing or Revolting" in reference to the CT6-V, and this past week another publications headline in reference to the C8 stated something along the lines of "5 good things and 5 bad things" about the new C8. Obviously personal preference is important but it just seems some of these writers can't bring themselves to let go of their bias, those two headlines clearly show their bias or dislike for two excellent vehicles. I can go on and on about other slights, but you get the point. Those same headlines/backhanded compliments don't happen when talking about the latest Porsche or Ferrari supercar, they get a pass due to their name. Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with everything GM does and I think there are some aspects that could be better, but as a whole GM seems to be the red headed step child that no matter when they do, they will never get the kudos they deserve even when they hit a homerun.

You're just now discovering there's bias in automotive journalism?

No...definitely not, but the two headlines mentioned above on two new cars that are in my opinion, beautiful and well designed cars, just blows me away.

If it's a Honda, they're gonna love it.

I remember a Honda piece long ago, IIRC it was Pat Bedard at CD. It was just about creepy how he referred to the Accord. And I mean love in the real sense of an unnatural attraction to a mechanical device.

Regardless.. U know they are bias as ***. I truly think their goal is to rag on GM cars to try and get even the most staunch lover of the company to go to one of the foreign makes. It's sickening. Come to think of it I believe the same about many in this site.. Except they want U to go to Ford or FCA.. Oh. And Hyundai/Kia.

I'll concede that they generally parrot the hard plastics line regardless of what GM car they're reviewing....itll be beneficial if they were more specific instead of "hard plastics"...they need to expand on it, show comparisons, justify the remark...

Agree with that, because to some degree most of them use the stuff. But it would be good to see what displeases them about one, say vs. another. Is it texture, appearance, or what?

I also think the car testing as a job and get a car like an Equinox that offers LITTLE if any "excitement" and then HAVE TO FIND stuff to write about and IMHO GM's insistence on NVH and ride comfort leads to vehicles that are non rememberable leaving a lot of room for biases to show up
even around here when the Cruze 1.4T was new people were complaining it is "dangerously" slow when it was one of the fastest "C" segment economy cars on the market BUT it was the quietest and most isolated car available unlike the "much sportier" CIVIC - a NOISEY and "tight" riding car

I agree with that through experience. I had a 1981 Olds Omega acquired through marriage and then later a 1986 Cavalier sedan(both bought used in the mid and late 80's) and always liked how they felt bigger than they were and to me solid driving cars so to speak? or had a presence about them in that way (not a problem for me as far as ride and drive effects) compared later to imports I had like a 1982 & a 1983 Nissan Sentra which were tin cans.

Remember when you called out MotorTrend for giving a higher score to the Toyota Matrix than the Pontiac Vibe? Good times.

Yes, there is anti-domestic bias in the automotive media.
