GMI Spied! 2013 Chevrolet Volt "ET" Truck!
    GM Readies Volt-Based Pick Up

GMI spies snapped this shot of a Volt testing down at GM's Arizona proving grounds, with a bed! GMI received some inside info of a new variant of Volt testing to be readied for 2013 to help expand and spread out cost of the Voltec technology. GM's Advanced technology program was able to double the size of the lithium Ion battery due to the loss of rear seats, and gaining a flat floor to sore batteries under.

Range should improve to an impressive 80 miles on pure electric power due to the larger capacity battery, and the range extender pushing the electric ute another 340 miles. GMI tried to get an official statement about the pick up truck, but as of this writing, there was still no response. What we can see here is that the “ET”or “Electric Truck” as it is being called internally, has received a longer wheel base for the large six and a half foot long bed, as well as a little height to complete the truck look, but a lot of the Volt design elements are still intact such as the LED tail lights.

It is easy to see why GM would make this move, as it helps the company on many fronts. First and foremost the Volt "ET" helps improve CAFE scores of Chevrolet's truck line up, on top of spread out the cost of the very expensive technology. With CEO Dan Ackerson pushing hard to reduce the retail price of the standard Volt, this is a smart road to travel. Taking into account America's love affair of pick ups, and the rise of gas prices forcing people to move to smaller vehicles, offering a small pick up that can haul up to a reported 500lbs in its small 6.5 foot bed, or tow over 750 pounds for 60 to 80 miles gas free should make these trucks a hot commodity.

No price set, but expect that with a larger battery means slightly higher price tag. Our sources say that "under 45" is the target, to keep price around a fully loaded Silverado. No news on a crew cab version, or if there will be an all-wheel drive model or a Z71 trim version at this time. As more news comes out, we will update everyone!

Smart idea - for those people who need a truck, but don't want to go large. Way to go GM.

Now, how long before Crapota copies it and says they created the segment?

I'm guessing the US of A just ticked over April 1?...

I mean wow! a Volt Ute! send over an SS model with a Holden badge and charge $22k for it. It'll sell like hot cakes and be number 1 on the charts. etc.

Now this one I can't believe.

A Volt truck would be pretty interesting though... just can't seeing them make one.

ET? Will it come with a "phone home" option?

Be careful what you say. Someone might try to explain to us that no one would buy a hybrid truck. Or say that a regular cab only would be a fatal mistake. Or try to simply scare us with "facts" based upon their opinion just because they forgot what today is.

I hate April Fools Day. You basically have to ignore all news for a 24 hour period.

Despite the date, I love the idea! Plus more space under the bed for a bigger battery array!
