    GM Urges Patience as Silverado Falls to No. 3



    General Motors' prolonged ramp-up of the redesigned Chevrolet Silverado has put the longtime No. 2 pickup in an unfamiliar, uncomfortable position: third in Detroit's three-way race.

    Ram has beaten the Silverado in nine of the past 10 months, according to U.S. sales estimates from the Automotive News Data Center that have been validated by GM's quarterly reports. The Ram has outsold the Silverado by 36,619 since the latest Silverado 1500 hit dealerships in August and holds a lead of nearly 22,000 five months into 2019.

    GM truck sales are an example of why staged rollouts are a terrible idea. I get that it's a great way to keep interest during the lifespan of a generation, but they should have put it all out in the beginning. Now, the message is "Just wait, you'll see", GM ever continuing press release.

    I dont think the issue is slow rollouts.

    I think the issue is that few have liked what they've been releasing.

    I will say that I greatly appreciate the "greater than" "less than" LED's on the front now. It is really easy to tell that it is the new model from a distance.

    I guess we will see how it plays out. If they keep having press releases talking about more profit on less sales, then we will know.

    This launch was botched worse that the latest F150 launch, too little at once is just lost sales.

    I've complained about it many times on the forums.. Launch all versions at once. Including Corvettes and Cadillac Vs. In fact... look at the backlash of the V announcement. Timing. Had they just announced all versions at once.. no issue. Roll-out all versions at one too. The idea is to continuously offer a new option incrementally as newness wears off. Makes zero sense in this day and age when we see the upcoming products from them and their competitors on a daily basis. The old model of marketing needs to change.

    We are not talking the Malibu here, where you get 3-4 chances at this thing. We are talking the Bread and Butter of the Company.

    The Truck portfolio manager needs to go PERIOD. As does the Bean Counters, starting with "Mother Mary". Profit before Volume is fine, as long as there is not anyone else in the Market, trying to take your Volume. Eventually there is No Volume, and No Profit.

    GM made a lot of mistakes with the new Silverado/Sierra. The first was the styling, it looks too much like a Toyota Tundra. The second was not fully upgrading the interior. The third was limiting the availability of the 6.2L and 10 speed transmission. The fourth was not offering a twin turbo charged V6 to compete with the EcoBoost. The fifth was the weird prolonged rollout. The sixth was piss poor promotion.

    And they made those mistakes because they've put all their focus on electric and autonomous vehicles when there is no demand for either, and there won't be for at least a decade or more.

    They need to go back to the drawing board and updated the design ASAP.

    back in the Pontiac G8 days GM pushed the AMERICAN SADAN is alive but everybody KNEW it was an OZ sedan in drag but GM stuck with the AMERICAN ness of it and the amount of PRESS pressure there was for the UTE to follow and we were teased with the G8-ST

    I believe GM NEEDS to learn that the internet exists AND we KNOW everything GM offers everywhere and is THINKING ABOUT

    but alas we get a "chinese" FWD trailblazer when a RWD full frame "real" trailblazer is in production for somewhere else

    the V series announcement should have involved the pace cars from the next day EVEN if it was a PROMO VID showing them doing a drag race or such when the "Stay tuned" part was announced

    Exterior styling, power trains, size, options, all excellent, interior style, materiel and technology packs, plus off road options, fail.
    No reason this truck does not have front diff lock available now in Colorado, a power wagon or raptor option, and a real performance truck such as supercharged corvette motor raptor.. With two brands, they should cover both power wagon and raptor,
    But the short Englishman in charge of American trucks, what did mother Barrah expect?

    Wow, who would have thought that a truck with a hideous exterior, dog**** interior, outdated volume motor, and premium pricing strategy would struggle in the marketplace?

    It's not so much the slow roll out that dropped them to #3.
    It's the fact that Ram closed a BIG gap in the last 5 yrs while Silverado was relatively flat in sales.
