My opinion is that the European offerings are overpriced for what you get.

Or they're aiming at a different market - the new Defender certainly isn't aiming at buyers of the original Defender.

True, But considering its size, its much more expensive than this

I like the test the English do, its more realistic to the customer than the Moab Rock Claws US testers subject the vehicles to. The sort of people that do rock claws never do it bone stock.

That said, This AT4 with a diesel or 5.3 is a far much better buy for an American than the Defender 110.

Even in Land Rovers own stable, you can get better deals than the Defender. The Mercedes is just plain over priced.

Then there is the yet to come Bronco, depending on pricing, its really going to throw a wrench, and perhaps HUMMER EV if its priced right...

If one can get a Hummer EV for $80K, its a no brainer.. for regular use here in my part of the world.

. Could it be that thar snob appeal thing? They seem to think on the whole that they're better and more "enlightened" than us heathen westerners.

I will say that the g-wagon is very overpriced and has really become a vehicle tailored to the Kardashians rather than people who go offroad. It's simply too expensive. As for the defender, it's nice but overly complicated for what it's trying to do. It should have been body on frame and have much more customizability. Air suspension in an offroader? Not a good idea. The wrangler is the best rock crawler you get from the factory. However, the wrangler is unsafe and has a terrible ride. I'm very interested in seeing what the bronco can do.

I don't see this as any different than regular luxury cars/CUV's or sporty cars. The Euro's charge more because they can. An S Class has tremendous go fast capabilities that no one uses, A Defender/G-Class have tremendous off road capabilities no one will use, a Ferrari has incredible sport capabilities that most people don't use. Even my lowly ATS has capabilities that I've never fully explored.

The Defender is now some weird Yuppies nostalgia trip now. Yawn...... I'm far more excited for the new Bronco.

I still love G-Wagens + Wrangler Rubicons, both have a unique niche.

I never could justify the G Wagen price in my head

Lol, zem gods obviously are crazy.

The 4x4 space is getting hot. Toyota does offer the TRD 4 Runner, it’s ancient, but seems to sell well.

And that's fair enough. But very few luxury products would be "justified" in your head.

I like the GWagen, and the Jeep, but let's be honest, hardly anyone in the US buys the G for it's off roading chops...it's an image car and MB charges handsomely for that image. Hell my image conscious 9y/o daughter only cares about G Wagens and Teslas...everything else is, in her words, a Mazda.

Of course not, but it has the heritage + engineering to do it. Heck, they made portal axels for the last Gen, and are supposedly working on them for this Gen. Agree that for the most part it is an image/lifestyle vehicle at this point in its evolution, but it has the chops to do it if you want it to. That's obviously much different than say what the Blazer is now. snicker snicker....

I want to get an EX ARMY G wagon once Canada forces is done with them in 2 - 4 years (-:
but I gree the defender has gone "high street" trendy retro and far departed from the "true" defender and IMHO that is a shame and makes it quite pointless as the disco is still around as far as I know (globally)
