As a follow-on to the discussion of cars you might have had, how about listing the cars you grew up with, i.e. the cars your parents had while you were growing up...

Here's my list, beginning with the set of cars my parents had after coming to the US in 1964:

1954 Chevrolet sedan (first car they got upon arriving in 1964)
1960 Plymouth Valiant
1960 Plymouth Valiant station wagon (car they had when I was born in 1967)
1964 Chevrolet Impala station wagon (other car they had when I was born)
1969 Chevrolet Kingswood station wagon
1972 Volkswagen Beetle (had for only a few months--my mom saw one crunched on the freeway and freaked out)
1972 Plymouth Valiant Duster
1974 Dodge Coronet station wagon
1976 Ford Granada Ghia (ultimately became my first car)
1978 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Estate station wagon
1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme
1985 Chrysler Fifth Avenue
1988 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Regency (ultimately gave it to my in-laws, who still have it, last car before I got married and moved out)
1993 Lexus ES300 (not counting the short fling with the VW, the first and last import they ever owned) :P
1998 Chevrolet Astro conversion (still have)
2001 Cadillac DeVille (still have)
2001 Buick Century (still have)

Where did you come into the picture relative to that list? i.e. what cars did your parents have when you were born?

I don't recall my parents cars, it was the auto shows in the late sixties and early seventies that had the big impact and what I remember most about growing up with cars. As a young boy I recall the muscle car era all to well. Watching the Mopars, Chevies and Fords cruise around was an awesome experience. Although I didn't get my drivers license till 75 my friends owned cars such as early 70's Type LT Camaro, another in a 66 327 Beaumont ...another in a early 70's Challenger 440. Later I had to catch up with them in my 69 Impala but those were the days. Wasn't uncommon to see all that HP in one driveway when we got together, I'm sure there are many that can relate to this...and for those who can't, well I guess you just had to be there.

Maybe I am a little too sentimental with that era but it was a great time, gobs of HP and cubic inch. Perhaps that is why I smirk at those single exhaust fart-can mufflers with the gawdy wing on the backend but hey, I am getting use to it. After all what has the young crowd to start with nowadays.

My 32 Coupe of days gone by....you can see the nose of the impala sticking out..lol.

Damn: (except for coolcaddy)-- look at all the Pontiacs! Here's some more:

With help from his dad, my Dad got his first car in '62~
>> 1962 Biscayne 2-dr sedan (I-6 PowerGlide): was so "dangerously" slow that Gramps traded the 'cayne in on his '66 Pontiac, and instead gave Dad his:

>> 1963 Pontiac Catalina 4-dr sedan (389, RHM)
I was brought home from the hospital in this coke-bottle beaut in '66. Got T-boned in '69. I do not remember this car.

>> 1970 Catalina 4-dr sedan (400, THM): Childhood memories of peering over Dad's shoulder at night to see the red Indian head high-beam indicator. Remember this one well. Traded in '81 for a mitsu colt- what a mistake!

>> 1972 Chevy Nova 4-dr (307, TH350): bought used, sold circa '78. Not much recollection of this one.

>> 1977 Pontiac Catalina Safari (301, TH250): not sold 'til '95 & 135K trouble-free miles. Wagon did a lot of hauling. The family truckster. Borrowed it over the winter of '93-4 for one last lengthy goodbye. Miss her.

>> 1981 Dodge (mitsubishi) Colt: (not much, who cares): POS that exploded at 73K.

I was away at college from '84-89, so the '92 Olds Cutlass Ciera (used) and the '90 & '96 LeSabres Dad had after the above I didn't 'live' with.

But I myself promptly focused not on '70s cars, but on '60s cars, tho I have no real childhood experience with any. I've owned 7 '64-66 full-size Pontiacs. As the years pass however, I inch backwards in focus; having already delved deep in the '50s, my current focus tends to center in the '40s. I think that will forever be my prime interest: '40s & '50s cars.

1954 Chevy 4-dr
1962 Chevy Belair wagon - 283 Powerglide (still in the grove on the farm, minus the 283)
1963 Chevy Corvair 4-dr - Powerglide (still in the grove on the farm, minus the engine
1967 Chevy Belair 4-dr - 250 L6, 3-on-the-tree
1968 Chevy Belair 4-dr - 250 L6, 3-on-the-tree
1974 Chevy Impala 4-dr - 350, no air
1979 Chevy Impala 4-dr - 305 (still in the shed, guess we should haul some of these away)
2000 Chevy Impala - 3400

1973, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980 Chevy 2WD pickups - all 250 L6, 3-on-the-tree, we had a star mail route and put on 60,000 miles a year, truck must be available 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year, so Dad traded about every year to avoid problems.

1982 Chevy pickup - 305 ESC, 4-speed O/D manual - Dad's only V8 truck!
1984 Chevy pickup - 250 L6, 3-on-the-tree, Dad's gone, Mom goes back to tradition, 243,000 miles when she traded it.
1989 Chevy pickup - 4.3 V6/auto, Mom still has, retired mail truck with 218,000 miles.

1963 Jeep FC-150 - I drove this to school when I was 15.

good topic! my dad was a body-repair man, and always got a kick out of limping old beaters along. usually had a decent family vehicle, but loved his $200 specials. there are what i can recall from my youth (in no particular order):

1980's lada sedan
1985 toyota tercel wagon
1986 chevrolet caprice classic sedan
1975 buick electra
1970's (early) buick (actually i think he had a couple different ones)
1988 chevrolet caprice wagon
1986 mustang cobra GT
1983 oldsmobile firenza
1981 mercury capri
1987 plymouth reliant
1950's mercury meteor (chopped and lowered... gorgeous car)
1960's ford thunderbird
1988 ford F-150
1976 AMC pacer
1985 mustang GT
1992 ford aerostar
1995 ford aerostar
1991 plymouth sundance
1985 chevrolet chevette
1985 chevrolet celebrity
1940's mercury 700 (flat-bed dump truck)
1969 pontiac GTO (project... never finished)
1929 dodge coupe with full-size 1985 olds frame & engine (also never finished)

these are all within the past 20 years! i'm hoping to match dad's record... he'd be so proud of my 1980 spirit!

Yup, they were C/K trucks then, although when they were introduced in '88, they stuck they put the Cheyenne name on them just like they put the Silverado name on the current ones. It didn't stick as well though.

mom never drove til she met dad, and dad had a motorcycle the whole time til they wed. After that he had a skylar I believe, then a crap load of statoin wagons (thats when the kids came :P) followed by an 88 suburban, an 85 dodge lancer and a 98 cav. I came into the pic in 1983 sporting the old skool shaggin wagon

hmmm... wonder what role the "shaggin' wagon" played in your coming to be. did your parents perhaps purchase said vehicle 9 months before you arrived?!?
