ridicules it even realizing that the price is $20K less and there is a V8 that trounces the Toyota for STILL less.. Smfh.

No matter how philosophical or emotional the arguments may be, all good bench racing comes down to the numbers. Our Camaro V-6 1LE made the zero-to-60-mph run in 5.2 seconds and cleared the quarter-mile in 13.8 seconds with a trap speed of 101 mph. Top speed is limited to a governed 155 mph. The Supra fairly demolishes these numbers, requiring just 3.8 seconds to achieve 60 mph and blasting through the quarter a full second quicker, at 12.3 seconds, with a trap speed of 113 mph....

While it's possible to get a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro V-6 1LE for a base MSRP of $32,490, the base Supra starts with an MSRP of $50,920. That's a difference of $18,430, which is more than enough to buy and install any one of the several forced-induction kits made for the Camaro (ProCharger claims a horsepower increase of 45 percent for a total of approximately 485 ponies with its $6099 base kit, but adventurous and careless types can tune it for more) with enough left over for tires and tacos.

The Supratsi will likely quote the Supra's German-Japanese engineering pedigree, ostensibly more refined and detailed interior, and, for now anyway, exclusivity factor. Not to mention, its factory-supplied and fully warranted horsepower is ready from the box, whereas mounting power adders to the Camaro will likely void your warranty.

Hey.. Can we just go on record and say that if a turbo is attached to a 4cyl/V6... The purpose was to emulate a V6/V8? A Camaro SS and the upcoming LT1, both still can be had for like $20K less and still whip the BM... I mean Toyota

Seeing how well the V6 1LE did at VIR I’d like to see both run on the same day. Also the Supra really has around 400/400 so the SS should be it’s real competition.

With the numbers they got out of the Supra i'd say it has the SS covered

You guys probably bash the Supra because it wears a Toyota badge, but this thing is no Toyota. It's an overpriced BMW in drag and the price reflects that.

The only reason they didn't compare Supra to Corvette is that the GM
is $5K dearer but man, what an ass kicking that would have been...

It reads like a Camaro hit piece.

One of the many many reasons I stopped reading and supporting C&D.

I didn't bash the Supra at all.. I'm lost as to where U see bashing. My attack is on Car and Driver for knowing that the Supra is purpose built to take on V8s, as most Twin Turbos are, and then pitting it up against a NA V6 Camaro.. Instead of just putting the SS in its place. They even go on to say basically if a Camaro owner wanted to compete against the Supra....they'd have to void their warranty with GM and put a Turbo kit on the 3.6L... Instead of just buying ab SS. 😕

They can't even use the Price argument because even the SS is $15-20K cheaper.

They wouldn't have. They didn't even have the balls to just get a V8 powered Camaro which would have whipped it in the 1/4.

Look I'm not one to completely bash C&D for its reviews because some of them are spot on... And typically they actually know how to drive these cars for the best put out times.. But this.. THIS article is just DUMB.. And adds credance to what people say about them concerning anything BMW touches vs anything else. So much so I wouldn't have been surprised if they had of put a Vette in there.. And This Supra beat it... With C&D stating " we ran the Vette in Economy or Weather mode the whole test. And somehow the Supra beat it with just a V6TT". 😞

It's in the same ballpark price wise as the last Gen Supra Turbo - 17 years later, so I don't know that overpriced really applies. The Supra Turbo was expensive for its time.

Rip the BMW badge engineering all you want, but that's on Toyota for choosing this path.

I remember the pricing on the Supra Turbo and there is a reason it didn't sell that well. It was friggin expensive. $40k in 1998. Just for kicks, what was the price of a 1998 Z28?? $21k.

And because Toyota is choosing this path it's okay? If I wanted a BMW and its funky engineering I'd go for a better looking BMW than the Supra.

Why wouldn't they chose the segment leader in sales, the Mustang, to do such a comparison?

I don't think anyone needed an article to point out that a smaller, lighter, turbocharged/higher torque vehicle accelerates and handles better. I'd rather see a piece comparing the Supra to its BMW equivalent.

Toyota has for the first time in my life made a Camry that I have to say looks good. They didn't do the same for the Supra, I can not say it looks good, even if I drank a 12 pack.

Its worse.. I can't figure out wtf they were thinking testing a NA V6/MANUAL combo up against a TTV6/Auto combo. Despite the Camaro's weight.. it still braked better and almost cleared the 1g mark.. all for $13K less
