    2019 Malibu Premier

My Word, saw a premier on the freeway, By far the best looking Sedan anywhere I think my Fusion looks stella, but that Malibu is a looker in all ways'..

In the sun out on the road, low slung, Southern California Sun, this car looks really good

    Makes everything around look sorry

    Re: 2019 Malibu

Baffling thing is, GM had the capacity to start out with this Car 2 Generations ago, even before the Chapter 11, when they (from History) should have been looking for a Grand Slam, (like a Caravan/Taurus/K Car that saved other Companies before).

GM reminds me of the "Hands On" Genius in High School shop class, (you know the kid who's Dad builds houses, has a auto repair shop while they were growing up) just showing up long enough to get a passing grade, while Book Smart students are getting A's + B's.

You can blame Unions all you want, but the Malibu proves that GM's problems, are the problems of the ones Driving the Bus. Or the ones figuring out "How Much Money" to allow for the gas for the trip.

    Re: 2019 Malibu

A very unfairly trashed car on GMI.

As for unions, when your cost structure is higher than your competitions', you have to recoup that cost somewhere. Shortcomings can be blamed on unions. IF the Malibu falls short in something like interior quality, it's likely because you have to make up for higher labor costs. Match a higher quality interior part for part and you can't sell the car at a competitive cost. Yell all you want about "bean counters," but you have to make money.

I bought a 2018 Malibu Hybrid brand new earlier this year. It's as loaded as the hybrids get, minus the sunroof, and I couldn't be happier. I travel quite a bit for work and regularly average around 41 mpg. Best tank was about 45, worst tank was maybe 38. It's been a phenomenal car and really does look good.

I"ll put the 'bu Premier 3rd in looks behind the 6 & Camry...problem is that the 'bu only looks good in Premier trim which stickers for 36 grand. Buyers just aren't going to drop that kind of coin on a Malibu. GM needs to do a better job of making the lower trimmed models look almost as good as the upper trims.

I think the Malibu still looks better than a Camry, though the Camry is looking much better these days.

But you're right about the 6. That's really a very nice looking car. That "real person" in the Chevy ads that would pay $70K for a Malibu would cough up $100K easy for the 6.

There's a particular Camry color combo that I'd take over any 6....the Pearl white w/ black roof and red interior is ridiculously hot. Problem is that in my town there has to be like 8 of them that I see daily.

Very nice Al63240. The Voltec based powertrain in your Malibu Hybrid is world class.

IMO, Malibu Hybrid is the best variant of the car, with an impressive combination of performance, smoothness, and fuel economy. It's unfortunate that GM threw in the towel with Voltec, and killed the Malibu Hybrid after MY 2019.

My sister just bought one in red i think, with black roof and red interior. That interior, at least in pics, is a bit too red for me although she said it looks better in person. She's very happy with it. Was coming out of a Malibu lease which she also liked. Considered the Regal which her husband preferred, but it's her car and she got what she wanted.

It's very red...but also very stylish for someone looking to stand out.

That doesn't typically describe my sister. But she seems very happy with her choice.

And that's the thing, it's really not that bad of a looking car but GM definitely needs to do a better job of making lower trims look just about as good. Whether it be in better styled base wheels and a bit more bling, whatever it takes. I do think the restyle of the front end helped a lot too.

Right...what ends up happening is that 80% of the Malibus on the road end up looking like this:

and when people see that car with its black plastic mirrors, it immediately DQs it from their potential shopping lists.

Which kinda brings me to this...to hell with spending money on advertising...the best type of advertisement is seeing the vehicle in the metal, on the road. If 80% of the cars you put on the street look undesirable because you're trying to upsell by making the lower end look cheap, then your sales will never take off.

Just noticed a very nice enhancement to MY 2020 Malibu L, LS, LT, and RS models:

There is a switch between the infotainment system and the HVAC controls that disables the auto start-stop system. Finally! Thank you GM!!

My ATS is my first car with start/stop. And I really would be less happy if it could not be switched off. At times, like taking turns at a stop sign or if you're in a drive-thru, it's just annoying. Or if you're merging and want a really fast start, I'd rather have my engine running.
