It appears to shrug off assaults from cinderblocks and big barrels, too.
GMC dropped a composite bombshell in the pickup truck world last year when it debuted the 2019 Sierra with a carbon fiber bed. Usually relegated to high-end supercars, carbon fiber is exceptionally strong for its light weight, but it’s also exceptionally expensive and notoriously difficult to repair since it tends to shatter when stressed beyond the breaking point.

I wonder what at what point it will shatter.... I'm sure Ford is working on a response to GM's test of their aluminum bed, which will answer my question

I will bet they call it "Tough Bed", the Spray in Liner. $600 CDN.

Pretty good video. I'd bet this bed has Ford up at night.

Quite impressive. Hopefully GM's marketing dweebs and GMC dealerships have a proper strategy in place to promote and sell the Carbon Fiber bed option, and avoid a repeat of the Pro-Tec debacle 15 years ago.

Marketing failure.... disappointing. Does anyone today still offer the composite bed?

It's indeed unfortunate that the Pro-Tec bed was technically quite good, but suffered from poor marketing.

The current Honda Ridgeline and Toyota Tacoma come standard with composite bed. Here's Honda's video from a couple years ago demonstrating the durability of the Ridgeline's composite bed:

I wonder how stiff it is?

GM has a video out on the last trucks comparing them to the Ford SD. The Ford would flex almost an inch more in a unladed 3/4 ton. The on3 tone loaded the Ford tailgate would not open and it bent on the articulation ramps.

I suspect that this may be even more stiff.

I doubt it, the GM toolbox drop test videos had zero impact (LOL) on F series sales. Seriously, spray in bed liners have become the norm for people wanting a tough bed.

    ^this

Because the premium price and only high-trim availability is a work truck given !
Not to mention the work it sees from the buyers of the above mentioned trims !

Like the bed is the problem of these trucks.

Ok...so I have to ask, how does the standard bed w/ a spray in bedliner do on this same test?

It will dent and the bedliner might be removed/peel up later.

Real question is who loads their beds like this on purpose???

Granted there will be some accidents, but not a enough to justify spending a ton of money on the bed and as some have posted, even less likely on high end trucks opposed to "Work Trucks" were many of the people loading the truck don't even own it.

Think GMC would be better of making it a "stand alone" option and focus more on the utility of hauling Dirt Bikes and other cargo and it's ability not to rust/dent without a bedliner and for other uses outside of dropping blocks and tools into it.

It's a luxury item in a luxury truck. What it does for the owner is provide an "oooh, ahhhh" factor when showing off to friends. Just like the 500 hp engine in your high end German car that never gets taken over 85 mph.

And it generates showroom traffic and discussion from potential buyers. Several friends and people at my work have talked about the previous bed commercials and the new tailgate without me starting them. This will happen with this new bed as soon as commercials start hitting the tubes.
