V8 Supercars has officially confirmed the circuit layout and race format it will use for its inaugural visit to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, this May.
As reported by Speedcafe.com last September, the venue’s 3.7km National Circuit, which cuts out five corners from the full 5.5km Grand Prix layout, will be utilised for the Australian series.
The May 17-19 event will be known as the Austin 400 and feature a pair of 100km races on both the Saturday and the Sunday.

I would of thought a similar format to Clipsal with two 250 km races or similar. It is a shame that the Ute's couldn't ship off over there for a bit of a race and something even more rough and tumble the the main game. I know that would add insult to injury for a few members here.

One question I am still pondering is how will Ford America explain away the fact to the crowds that they don't have the Falcon heading there way like the SS. And secondly, what will they badge the Holdens as? Will it be similar to what they did in China a few years back and slap a tie on

I think some Holden or even all of them will rebadge as SS Chevys

I hope they have Holden badges since they are Holden's and come from an Australian motorsport...

What an awesome month for racing. Sprint All-Star race, V8 Supercars in TX, Monaco F1, Indy 500 and then the Coke 600!

Why should they? The Commodore is an Australian car in Australia's premiere Motorsport category. People in the US should get the chance to know that Holden exists.

They should leave the Holden nose & make the tail the Chevy with the big SS on the back, plus it will make people question what their looking at.

It will run the same as F1 in direction, however they are using a shorter course. The fuel fillers are designed to be located on either side, dependant on course direction.

Because it's in Holden's and GM's interest that they are badged as Chevrolet SS's. Because both want to sell them in the US. Same reason they are badged as Chevs in Abu Dhabi, or Buicks in China. GM do not sell Holdens in the US and it is a complete waste of effort to send them there as a Holden. And of course, the appeal for Nissan US, Ford Dearborn, Merc US to view this favourably is there. the Falc looks recognisably Ford enough (moreso than the NASCAR!) and the others are models on sale in the US. This looks like a smarter and smarter decision all the time.

Individual teams will of course be bound by whatever agreement they have with Holden - but I bet at least HRT and the majors will run with big SS logos and likely bowties.

And they'll do it willingly - they know what side their bread is buttered on. Not many people know, but HRT merchandising pays the racing budget. So you can be sure, there will be full 'Chevrolet SS' regalia on sale in Texas - it'll help pay for the trip.

And judging by the opening rounds of the series, and especially at the Melbourne F1 the other week, the Oz COTF - which look more like the real thing than the US NASCARs - will be extremely popular, I believe. Plus the fact you will see stuff on a road course, like this!

Especially, with news there are to be six SL63 racers, and Nissan's involvement with multiple entries.

I reckon even Ford will stay in with whatever car they replace the Falcon with. It's got the makings of the most exciting tintop-based racing in the world - real, big V8 racing. And it doesn't matter if the cars like the Nissan are based on FWDers. The engines are equalised, the chassis is parity, so is the aero, control tyres. So it's down to team and setup and driver skill. Chrysler seriously considered entering with the 300, I can see them regretting not doing so now.
